station lengths

I see a lot of people making coasters with stations that have a number of gates that do not match the number of seat rows in the cars of the trains they are running. this is a minor detail and doesn't affect the track itself, but doing it right is all part of working with the NL editor.

I got the following figures from a post Buster made at another site a long time ago, I converted them from metric into imperial figures:

The minimum length of a station, for it to have gates, is 23.1 feet (7 meters). For each gate that you wish to have for your coaster, add to that, 3.3 feet (1 meter). Here's a simple table for total station lengths:

4 gates: 36.4' (11 meters)
5 gates: 39.6' (12 meters)
6 gates: 42.9' (13 meters)
7 gates: 46.2' (14 meters)
8 gates: 49.5' (15 meters)
9 gates: 52.8' (16 meters)
10 gates: 56.1' (17 meters)
11 gates: 59.4' (18 meters)
12 gates: 62.7' (19 meters)
13 gates: 66.0' (20 meters)
14 gates: 69.3' (21 meters)
15 gates: 72.6' (22 meters)
16 gates: 65.9' (23 meters)
17 gates: 78.2' (24 meters)
18 gates: 82.4' (25 meters)
19 gates: 85.8' (26 meters)
20 gates: 89.1' (27 meters)

These figures work no matter what track style you use.
Cut and paste them into wordpad or something similar and print them up for easy reference.

Although you deserve credit for typing this up, you know you could also DL the NL calculator at the gravemetric studios website, which allows you to type in the number of cars, and rows of seats and then it will tell you the proper length of the station for the appropriate number of cars. However the Meter=Feet conversion comes in handy [:D]

very easy to remember: Nr of gates + 7 = station length [:)]

Yeah, just use the coaster calculator. That's what I do.

I checked out the coaster calculator, cool little tool. For this particular application though, a printout of the above table of lengths is faster and easier to use, and you can look at various lengths at one time and consider things, at least for me.
