It's a tournament. If you give your best and it isn't good enough, oh well. You personally know that you put in effort and gave it a shot, and hopefully you're satisfied with that. There's an opportunity to learn from the differences between your track and others who may have been rated higher, so you have an idea of how to improve your tracks for the future. Maybe the next time, other people will give their best and won't be good enough, and you'll have what it takes. Your statement implies that the best track in the contest shouldn't necessarily win. I thought the point of the contest was to have a fun way to find the best designer based on track quality?

And what Jimmy Yoshi said.

btw, does the fact that I'm not in the tourney mean you can slack on coordinating it? I don't understand the correlation between me not being in the tournament and still having an opinion based on facts I've seen. I think I've at least been making sense with what I've said, and there are peeps in the contest that I respect as a designer. Because of that, I think this contest should be run fairly, and I'm willing to voice my opinions to help that happen. I have offered thoughts and help before the competition rounds, but since you never asked, I voice them here in public. Sorry guy :) Pay more attention to details and do things the right way more often, and I won't say anything negative.

I was so impressed with this tournament until now (besides the template, it's really good).

Anyways, I will be busy creating a kickass coaster.

^Oh, poor vid... Lol.^
Im kinda bugged by this template. Its great, in a challenging way, but its driving me nuts right now. Lol.

Also, can we make another thread for contest bitching, its annoying to look through this clogged topic to find answers to questions.

I have to admit that I'm getting tired of the complaining as well. Yes, in 05/06 I used the seeding system in the NLT, but that was my choice alone, not the site's nor hyyyper's. Nowhere on the site is it written by the finger of God that "The contest is a sacred ritual. Thou shalt runneth it in this manner. Plague upon whosoever dareth to change it." The rules of the NoLimits Tournament are up to whoever is running it. If someone wanted to do triplets instead of pairs, they could. If they wanted to skip the pairings altogether and let the top 50% in instead, they could. It's all up to the host.

And let me refresh your memory. In the original NLT in 2003, pairings of two began at the very beginning, and Oscar drew them completely randomly. In 2004, GFA began with randomly-drawn groups of three people, with only one getting through from each. And originally in 2005, before it was overturned by a majority vote, I was going to do the same thing. So in actuality, the qualifying round with seeded pairs was only around during the two years that I was running the contest. It is no more site tradition than the two years that WWS and GFA were running it with random pairings from the start, or with the now two years of hyyyper's qualify-then-randomize method.

Anyway, back to the Round 2 template, all I can say is "damn." I have never ridden, watched, glimpsed, nor even attempted to build an X-car. yoshifreak, this is just about the best track type you could possibly have asked for in a pairing against me. I'm awful at unfamiliar track types, and downright terrible at making compact layouts with lots of brake runs, as I learned in Round 4 last year.

I don't get why everyone bitches in every tournament or contest that goes on here? It's like the expectations are that everything is run totally and 100% perfect and completely fair in every single member's opinion (which is most likely not..ever..happening). Give him a break, it's like everyone is looking for little things to pick on.

Anyways, this is going to be a tough round for me...So far I've tried to make about 5 beginnings, all of which have been completely fails [lol]. Going to be a fun couple of weeks!

So we can build on top of or over the existing buildings and attractions? Doesn't really say anything about those in the rules.

Ok, dude work with me here because for some reason I don't get your explanation.
You claim that pairing up the top-16 members from round 1 based on their performance will provide higher quality tracks as opposed to pairing those 16 randomly.
Is that what you're trying to say, or am I on the wrong track here?

Where did I say I could slack on hosting because are not in it? I was just wondering why you cared so much. I don't believe the rest of the designer's keyboards and stolen.
As for you voicing your thoughts and help in public, the only thing I got from you are negative reactions or accusations. Whenever you try to bring up an idea, you bring it like a jehova witness.
Could you, for once, be supportive and include some suggestions from your rich experience.
After all, this is only my 2nd tourney and I could use all the helpfull ideas you give me.

No.
Floating buildings are much cooler than lame-to-the-ground-buildings

Having the incentive may have made for higher quality tracks. Most of those who are good pretty much know they'll be in the next round when entering the first. However, if they know their opponent will be based on the quality of their first ride, they'll be more inclined to put a lot of effort into it instead of just getting by. That's what Jimmy Yoshi and I mean when we say what we said.

I like your templates.

Where does it say you can't build track on grey and dark green areas?

Yay for floating track above the dark green area's. As long the supports don't touch the ground there [:)]

I would just love to know, tho, why some people, that I will not name proceeded into round 2, and some other people, like Jimmy Yoshi or Gerstlcrazy didn't...

So, yeah, waiting for the ratings...

It's because we didn't include overbanks in our entries! For some reason hyyyper liked that about DBru's ride [lol]

Does a "double take" loop (like in the Universal Studios ride) count as two inversions or zero?

Nice template.

^^Could you lay off, man? I'm sure if hyyyper didn't like your ride as well, there was a perfectly good reason for it. (Like the fact that your layout consisted of nothing but double-ups/downs.)

Yours had bad trackwork, G's, and supports, and yet you're still in? Hmmmm

Just posting that to make sure hyyyper really sees it...

Eh his trackwork wasn't too bad, just needed to get rid of the overbank turns, allow laterals during the ride, get rid of the big lat spike, and unbank the brakes.

The only thing that truly bothers me about the current standings is that two people who broke a rule are in this round. Just because they couldn't read 'vague' rules that everyone else was able to follow were lifted by hyyyper [;)]

btw, what's the point of doing well in the first round if the second round contestants are randomly paired?

As you can see, doing well in the first round has no effect on who progresses on to the second around (Jimmy and Ckidmwm prime examples), let alone how they are paired. And I will stop when the ratings are posted and some reasoning for this set-up can be justified.

Ew. Can we please extend the supports to the bottom? Not seeing the footers is makeing me poop.

Also, Hyyyper, cant you just let jake, matt, and jimmy in this round just so the winner of the contest would actually feel like the winner. Its unaviodable that people will claim that the winner wouldn't have been the same if this tech. difficulty didnt happen. Just take the person that did the best in round one and give em a wildcard to round 3. It would solve any problems at the end of the tourny.
Over aim, opinions from others (im not saying names):
********** (7:32:45 PM): no matter what
********** (7:32:48 PM): the winner didnt win
********** (7:33:00 PM): the entire tournament is already completely untrue

^I agree. Would you please allow them in, or at least DQ the people who should have been DQ'd and let the next people advance?

I would just like to have a fair contest, and it is obvious at this point that the complaining will not cease until the people who strongly believe they should move on...move on.

Hey at least in this round overbanked curves are a good idea. Just don't have -1.9G's again.

U said that supports can go over 197 ft. Would the box extention on the track on the skywheel count as supports or track?

Yes, you can place footers underneath the paths and buildings.

Funny how people make these claim when the ratings aren't even posted yet. The best thing at this point is to make a wildcard system, so that everybody who didn't make the cut in round 1 can send in a track. If there are DQ's in this round, the best tracks from the wildcard-group will fill in the gaps.

If you mean the non-inverting loop, which is basically a twist up followed by a twist down, it'll count as zero inversions.
If the element is more like a half-loop up, inverted barrelroll, half loop down, it is considered two inversions.
