Hello people, it is once again time for the Coasterdraft, a game in which you try to create the best themepark by collecting rollercoasters from parks all over the world.
The concept is simple. Twelve members will takes turn picking coasters for their park, and after eight rounds, participants and site members vote for the best park.
Four of the twelve spots are reserved for the top-4 of last year. If they all accept the invitation there will be eight spots for regular members.
Now, lets go over the rules in detail
Timing
A lot of the elements in this draft are based on time. The time used will be CoasterCrazy-Time, which is the time that is shown on your posts in the forum.
Signing Up
So, you want to join? It's easy, if you have more than 100 posts on CoasterCrazy and you have access to the internet for the next two months, you can join. Simply post in the topic that you want to join. But please, spots are limited, you only join if you are planning on playing the entire draft from start to end. Members can sign up, or accept the invitation, until this Sunday September 5th 11:59 PM.
After the deadline, the eight open spots (or more if an invitation was rejected) will be randomly filled by people who signed up. The members who didn't get a spot will be put (in random order) on the back-up-list.
When the list of drafters is posted, the drafters have 96 hours (4 days) to post a number form 0 to 100. Numbers can only be picked once so you cannot pick a number that has already been picked. Once everybody has picked a number (or the time runs out) a 'magic' number will be randomly picked and the drafters will then be listed by how close they where to the magic number. Drafters that did not pick a number will be placed (randomly) at the end of the list.
The Draft
Once we know the order of drafters we can start with the draft. The draft consists of eight rounds in which the drafters can pick a coaster to place in their park. All rounds follow the same structure:
Start - A list of the coasters that are picked so far will be posted, as well as the order of drafters for the round.
Picking - Every member gets 24 hours to pick a coaster. These 24 hours start from either the 'start-post' or the post in which the previous members has made their pick.
End - Once the turn of the last member is over, the next round will start again with a 'start-post'.
After each round, the drafter that picked first, will be moved to the end of the line.
Valid coaster and missing picks
When it is your turn, you can pick any coaster that is operation at that time. The status on RCDB.com will be used as reference, unless you can prove otherwise (in case of soft openings, etc.). Dueling/racing coasters count as one single coaster and cannot be picked separately. Also, coasters that have been picked by other members cannot be picked either. If you pick an closed or already picked coaster you have until the end of your 24 hours, or until the next drafter picks his coaster, to correct this and choose a valid coaster. If you fail to pick a valid coaster (by not picking at all or not correcting your pick) you will 'miss' the turn.
So while the draft has eight rounds, you can end up with less than eight coasters in your park.
Disqualification
If you miss two turns in a row or three in total, you will be disqualified and a member from the back-up list will be asked to take your place. The back-up drafter can fill the missed turns in the following round. For example, if a member missing rounds 1, 3 and 5, he will be DQ'd. During round 6, the back-up can pick 4 coasters (3 for the missed rounds and the actual round 6 pick).
If there is no back-up available, the park of the DQ'd drafter will become SBNO and the coasters cannot be picked by other drafters.
NEW RULE
Skipping Turns
Drafters can skip a turn. Simply by posting that they want to skip a turn (before their actual turn ends of course) they won't have to pick a coaster that round, and it also won't count as a 'missed turn'. Instead, the drafter can make up for the 'skipped pick' in his next turn.
This will come in handy when you will be away from the internet that round, or if you find out it is your turn 2 minutes before your deadline. In both cass, you simply post you want to skip the turn and you can pick 2 coasters in your next turn.
Every drafter can only skip 2 turns in the draft. If you skip two turns in a row, you can pick 3 coasters in your next turn (obviously).
NEW RULE
EDITING POSTS
The post in which you make your pick CANNOT BE EDITED for any reason. If you want to add something or correct your post, post a new message.
If your post with your pick is edited it will not be valid!
This rule goes into effect now and does not apply to previous picks.
End of the draft
After round 8 the complete list of the parks and coasters will be posted. The drafters then have 96 hours (4 days) to send in their park name. If you do not send in your park name, you will be disqualified.
Voting
Once all the park names are in, or the deadline has passed, a new topic will be opened where members can vote on their favorite parks. Every member that has 50 posts or more can cast their vote. Drafters must also vote, if you fail to vote you will also be disqualified. The end result will be 50% drafters choice and 50% members choice.
Now, those are about the rules. It might be a lot of text, but it's all there to make the draft go as smooth as possible. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask them.
The most important thing is to sign up this week. But, once again, you can only join if you have a post count of 100 or more and please only join if you really want to play the draft for the next two months.
