I'm working on a high-quality version of my Magic Carpet Ride coaster.

Here's an early screenshot. My final goal is for this to be as photorealistic as possible. To answer a few preemptive questions, no, I'm not planning on modeling the train, and no I'm not planning on doing any animations or the like, as the rendering time is far too long for that to be pracitcal.

supports look big, and i also think the purple is too purple, and maybe the rails should be yellow, but it's your coaster and it looks hell nice!

The supports are identical to the supports on the NL version.

I haven't done much work on textures yet. Still, I think it's no more cartoony looking than NL itself.

POV-Ray is the rendered. For the geometry, I modified my support genator to export a POV file. It's pretty similar to the way I generate the layouts on my website, just much more detail. I'm running a giant 4000x3000 render right now from an onride perspective. Here's a small portion of it.

Well, after 2 hours this jumbo 4000x3000 render is 91% done.

Here's one last pic for the day, another on-ride shot, this time exiting the Stengel Dive.

Looks good, but the shadows a bit "too choppy", add some distortion there, just a tad bit. if you can, check out some 3ds max brazil renders and try to imitate it in pov ray. actually, i don't know if pov ray supports this, but rescale your normals a tad bit and detach some polygons to recalculate more accurately.

I can get soft-shadows quite easily. It'll just increase rendering time by a factor of 10 or so.

Why don't you use mental ray? It gives a better finish

Because I'm not using Max or Maya? Because I'm using free software, instead of something I grabbed off Emule?
