I'm wanting to start doing my own 3DS creations, so I was wondering what the best program was.

And I'm not talking huge fancy scenery, just simple things like a station and maybe a few surroundings for theming purposes.

Anyone know a good program?

Object Creator- free, easy to use, but limit in number of polygons

Google Sketchup. Free, insanely easy, lots of fun actually. Just get someone to export for you and you're set.

What software would someone need to do the exporting?

I think Object Creator is the easiest way to build what you want.
Some "shape" and "textures" limits but it's ok and hyyyper is right:with merging it's unlimited!
I only use it 'cause the other programs are too complex for me![;)]

ZOOZ38, I have Sketchup Pro, but the exporting feature does not export textures correctly when using 3ds. I have another program that I use in conjunction with sketchup to fix the problem. Let me know if you want me to help you out when your objects are ready for exporting!

So far anim8or works for me somewhat. OC seems to have some pretty bad limitations in terms of how you can model, etc. Well at least, there are easy ways to get around the brush limit of the trial version. The interface is also rather simplistic and lacks some detail. (i.e. various material settings, etc.)

I also recommend getting either Google Sketchup or the Object Creator. Either one, their both good. And as eelover said, you are limit to the # of polygons. But you can make two different things and then put them together in the actual editor.

I thought I was the only one who had this problem! I was going insane because the texture flipping irritated me so much. May I ask what program you use that corrects this?

Haha, I'm gonna sound pretty stupid, but what is exporting? I don't know anything about software or whatever, and I wanna start to make my own 3Ds too.

Did your common sense fly out the window? Honestly, what do you think it is? Even you don't know how to use software, it'd be easy to figure out.

haha yeah, I always sorta think things are more complicated then they are. It's because I always hear of it mixed up with a ton of complicated stuff I don't understand, so I guess I tricked myself in a way to think it was more complicated too. But wow, that was pretty stupid of me [lol]

For the software, I've come to realise that there's no such thing as 'good free 3d modeling software'. If you want quality, you've gotta pay for it (unfortunately). For me, I've made a heap of great stuff for RCT3 using 3DS Max 9.0, Maya 8.0 Unlimited and Milkshape

Which in fact is a dead wronk generalization.

The software, *any* software even, will do nothing for you. Be it free or (over)pricey. Nada. Nill. Niente! It's YOU who is either willing and able, or not, to use one of the *given* tools, and get reasonable results.

Also, in general(!), with the community suffering from so many 3Diots making objects that would perfectly suit any static presentation, but at the same time miserably fail at dynamic rendering, I see not any need to call for any "professional" software, as long as most (yeah, most!) of these pseudo "professional users" only throw up bloated crap, which could have been done better, easier, and faster with the simplest tools and appropriate know-how. You simply cannot cure illiteracy and ignorance with "better" programs.

Sorry to say, but in the situation, your above statement...

...must be rejected for lacking any practical experience. [xx(]

Does anyone recommend buying the full version of Google SketchUp if my only purpose is NoLimits?

Also, does anyone else know what to use it for cause it's fun and wondering if there's anything else I can do with it.

I've tried to run Sketchup on Vista, and it doesn't work for me. But I have used Wings 3D. It's not as easy to get used to, especially if it's the first time you make 3Ds but it's totally free. It does work quite well. All you would need in the begining is a few good toturals on exporting the textures with the objects.

I would not recommend that at all. Sketchup is very expensive, and the trail version is the same exact thing, you can see this when they give you the 500 minutes free of google sketchup pro. I would say, get the trial, and ask people about exporting the items for you.

Ok, well I've finally started to make 3D tunnels. And so far so good, but how do I make it so there are holes at each end of the tunnel? The way I've got it right now is the train shoots through a wall, goes through a tunnel, and then goes straight through another wall.
