Shortkid, considering this site is 99% men im happy they don't love me back. Check it out, i did not start this at all, im just standing up for my counrty. And i hope i dont give you that america is a bad image, i guess im just another "asshole". I wont be ashamed of it ether.

Agreed. I have every right to voice my opinion just as you shared your opinion about the democratic party.

I didn't bother reading the whole thread, but it appears to be more of the same old poop you see everywhere. "If you don't support the war, then you are not supporting the troops"...which, of course, is flat out bullshit. Not supporting/agreeing with the war in Iraq has absolutely nothing to do with the troops over there who are just doing their job. It really makes me sick to see this tactic used against people who don't agree with the war.

Also, there is NEVER a good reason for using nuclear weapons that could kill thousands of innocent civilians. While it may be true that Japan learned a hard lesson back during WW2, I would like to think that the rest of the world did too, including the United States. As has already been said, any country in conflict with another could come up with a decent rationale for themselves in using nuclear weapons against their enemies. Whether or not the rest of the world agrees with the rationale doesn't really matter.

Ummm, no where have I read anyone saying that comment or drawing that inference. For I would have most certainly brought the hammer down on that.

I wasn't referring to anything you said. I was talking about the contents of the letter at the beginning of this thread.

For those of you who sit on your couches in front of your television, and choose to condemn this man's actions, I have but one thing to say to you. Get out of you recliner, lace up your boots, pick up a rifle, leave your family behind and join me. See what I've seen, walk where I have walked.

To those of you who support us, my sincerest gratitude. You keep us alive. I am a Marine currently doing his second tour in Iraq. These are my opinions and mine alone. They do not represent those of the Marine Corps or of the US military, or any other.

Sincerely,
LCPL Schmidt
USMC

The guy should really blame his leaders for the condemnation instead of the couch potatoes. They are the ones that seem to finger point blame to the soldiers for these types of things (for example, the prison scandal) instead of taking heat for it themselves...

edit: looks like I screwed up with the quote feature. Oh well. [xx(]
edit 2: screwed up...AGAIN. lol
edit 3: wws has fixed it [pshades]

Ahhhhh .... I can go with that then. I thought you were eluding to someone here making that statement, not me specifically. However, his comments are right along with what most feel about the perceived "non-support" we (as active duty members) have felt from a minority in this country ... and it is that minority which seem to (oddly enough) have the loudest voices.

yeah and it's sad that they get so much media attention. I've heard talk of a Anti-War protest at our school someday. Im sure with our school only mabye 50, 100 at the most of the 1200 would show up but im sure it would make headline news and be such a big event. It's sad that those people get so much attention, even tho it's greatly minoraty.

Public schools holding anti-war demonstrations ... I had no idea we had gone back to the 60's again. *sigh*

Anyway, have we beat this thing totally to death yet fellas? [lol]

I've only posted twice in this thread, and I think I'm already spent. This is one of those types of discussions, similar to religion and homosexuality, that will just keep going and going and going....

hm... if you think we're going backwards in time by doing a 60's anti-war protest, then we really went back considering the fact that wars have been going on since pre-history.....

The welcome into the military ... well, it is different now, it is MUCH more gentler (for example, they could hit you when I came in, now they cannot). I would say to watch Full Metal Jacket .... that was about my welcome in 1990.
