For your information, this is the second time I have written all this out, I was typing for about 45 minutes when my computer crashed [:(!] So I'm gonna do a slightly shorter version this time.
Right, I usually don't go to Alton Towers in the summer, because I know better, but I wasn't payins so hey, what you gonna do? You'll learn why you don't go to Alton Towers in the summer while you read this:
Okay, I'm just gonna go for a runthrough of the stuff we did and then give some tips at the end.
Right, we arrived at the park about 9:15 which was about perfect timing, we got into the actucal park at about 9:30. The first thing we did was go to Spinball whizzer, it being right nest to the entrance and all. Well, the first thing we learned today, is that Spinball actually spends more time out of action being fixed than it does actually operating. We had waited for 50 minutes for it, with it stopping and starting all the way, letting a couple of people on, then letting a few empty cars go, just when we were getting close to the end of the queue they announced that it was properly broken and that they couldn't fix the technical problem at the moment, so we thought it best to cut our losses and try elsewhere.
We went over the Forbidden valley and got on Nemesis, then on Air, in practically no time, queuing about 10 minutes for each which is bloody good for summer time. This lead us to believe that perhaps there wasn't going to be all that many people in the park today what with all the bad weather recently and stuff, eventually we found out that you couldn't possibly be more wrong .
After Nemy and Air, we went over to Oblivion and the board at the front of the queue said, and I quote,"Oblivion queue time approximately 20 minutes" ok, so we thought we'd join the queue, so we did. Anyway, 2 HOURS later we got on, yes I did say 2 hours, if you ask me that 20 minutes was the worst estimate EVER. I was not best pleased you know with Oblivion being a pile of crap anyway.
After that we had a bit of lunch and anybody who's been to a themepark knows lunch is expensive, so pack your own food, I had Ham sandwiches hehe. We then went on Air, well I say that, it was actually another 2 hours before we went on Air, I should really have said "we joined the queue of Air"[lol]. After about an hour I was seriously wishing I'd taken my gameboy or something. But all was not lost as right in front of us in the queue were 2 really nice 'hot' girls who decided they were gonna turn round and start talking to me [:D] hehe. Also behind us was a family that were making me laugh pretty much all the way, you know the sort, they talk to each other about the rides as if they know loads of stuff about them when really its just rubbish that they made up just then, you know the sort? I'll give you a quick burst of some of their outbursts - "Yeah! Nemesis is well fast, fastest in britain isn't it? Nearly 100 mph" at which point I had to turn around and put him straight, I told him its speed and all that kind of stuff and told him that infact it wasn't the fastest in britain. Then this kids father turns to me and says "But they reckon that it generates more g force than a shuttle taking off" at which point I just shook my head and faced away from them and nearly wet myself laughing. So it wasn't all doom and gloom.
After we got off Air, in a sort of 2 hour period we went on the water rides and the mine train which also isn't that bad considering it is summer time. Then we looked at the queue time boards and everything had queues of 2 hours+ , except for Spinball, which it said was still closed. So we thought feck it and went back to the entrance of the park to leave. On the way back, we walked past Spinball, which was strangely............open *raises eyebrow* Honestly those boards just blatantly lie to you. So anyways, we got on spinball in a relatively short time, about 45 minutes, then we stopped for a coffee and to finish our sandwiches and left the park at about 4:30ish. We didn't even managed to get one ride on corkscrew, which usually never has big queues, or at least not while i've been there.
All in all, not a great day, but it wasn't terrible either, it gave me a break from an entire days coursework [;)].
A few little tips:
DON'T GO TO ALTON TOWERS IN THE SUMMER! Unless you have vouchers for money off the entrance tickets, even then I don't recommend it, I most certainly wouldn't have gone if I had been paying. The best time to go is in october/november, the very best time to go, is that halloween fest thingy that they have because not only is the park cheaper to get into, but its half empty aswell and is also open until 10 at night. So you find yourself queueing for no more than 15 minutes AND going on the rides until 10 at night, what more could you want?
Get there early! and then don't go and spoil the fact that your there ealry by trying to get on Spinball!
Then go around every ride and get FastTrack tickets, otherwise you'll regret it later when the people with fast track tickets are just walking on the exit, right in front of you, when you've just been queueing for 2 hours, trust me, it REALLY pisses you off!
Don't take any notice of what those queue time boards say, because they're lieing to you.
Take your own food aswell is a pretty obvious one, but yeah [:)].
Also, if you're going to play one of them silly games where you win a big feck off gigantic scooby doo thing, then don't do it until the very end of the day otherwise you spend all day carrying it around and you HAVE to take it on the water rides with you.......not good when its actually bigger than you are
I think thats about it, if you got any questions, don't hesitate to ask because I'm sure there might be other useful things you might want to know....
