Alton Towers - SW7 - "The Smiler"

wow!!! when I first read abut this coaster having 14 inversions, I thought it was a typo, then, I thought, wow, colossos has 10, its only 4 more, so, yeah, anyway, looks cool.

It is cool, apart from that fact that it keeps getting stuck

smiler. what to say but wow. the coaster is awesome and the flow is fantastic. it works very well. the station is very cool and the exit is brilliant but the pre station que is abit rubbish. thankfull i got on it last week and cannot wait to get back

Was thinking about taking my camera tomorrow to get some proper shots, but... is it worth the hastle of having to leave it at the baggage desk every time? Plus it's been photographed enough, by people with posh cameras, so I don't think I'll bother!

It seems like just pot luck whether or not it's valleyed in the mornign when you turn up at the park; so we could very well just spend tomorrow taking pictures of a train being craned off the track...

another productive day at alton towers

Chain Lift fvcked up this morning and it never opened!

OKkay so who went today......someone had to, and I want to LOL if it valleyed.

I don't know anyone who went today, but Smiler was still closed for the majority of the day while they fixed whatever is wrong with the first chainlift. Alton Towers tweeted about an hour ago (15:20) that Smiler is now open again. So that will last until about... 17:20.

In fairness to it, since my last comment, it's run fairly reliably with no major breakdowns. Took the opportunity and met up at Alton Towers yesterday with old coastercrazy members Edge and EnglishCoasterGuy.

Smiler was as good as I remember it, if not better. I just wish it hadn't had so many issues, because it really is a top quality coaster.

You are now also able to walk freely (and much to EnglishCoasterGuy's amusement, completely unsupervised) around the Towers themselves. You're even able to go up onto the roof where I snapped a couple of photos of Smiler.

Rest assured when I visit it'll break again! Good pictures though!

I still can't believe we were allowed in the Towers unsupervised! So dangerous.
