Six Flags Great America is asking rollercoaster enthusiasts to celebrate a milestone for one of the park??????s most famous rides by looking backward.

Park officials announced Monday the return of ??????backwards blue?????? cars on the American Eagle.

The famously bumpy, double-tracked, wooden coaster, which is celebrating its 30th year in operation, boasts side-by-side tracks ?????? one with red cars and one with blue. Both trains normally operate in a forward-facing manner.

But on special occasions, the park will operate the blue cars backward, said park spokeswoman Jennifer Dugan Savage.

The Eagle will run backwards blue cars Aug. 8 through Sept. 17.

Still the tallest, fastest and longest racing wooden coaster in the world, the American Eagle has given more than 45 million rides during its three-decade tenure, according to park officials.

The Eagle reaches a top speed of 66 mph. Riders plunge 147 feet ?????? about 15 stories ?????? at first drop and then coast up and down a series of smaller hills. Three hundred-sixty-degree turns in the track span an area of about 237,000 feet.

I'd argue that everything before the helix is really neat backwards but that is the case forwards so.....

Not going to try and justify that one.

^Ride it without the trims at the end of the helix, then get back to me.....

Most of the airtime is AFTER the helix.

How many times do we have to go over that I was riding this roller coaster before your parents had the dirty sweaty sex that made your life possible?

they wont turn them off , they want to spend the maintenance money on generic crap. this is a six flags park , remember.
and i DID ride it without the trims and to be honest the helix was the most " wtf" moment on any rollercoaster that size that i ever encountered.

They are off on almost any non-crowded day. For some reason they are always on when the park is crowded.

How is the helix "WTF"? It's a good, constant force, with the shaking added in.

That's cause WGN leaked a video. Everyone in the area knew.

the constant force of the weight of my ass in a seat on a rollercoaster saying to myself "HELL YEAH... THAT WAS AWESOME! wait.. holy crap why the hell are we going around in a big slow assed circle?" i wont disagree that it is a great ride, i believe that too,i's a wonderful ride! but be realistic.

It gives it character. It's sorta like a breather inbetween segments of the ride. The ride after the helix on red side is my favorite. Especially if you're lucky enough to grab a ride in the rain; crazy rushed ride. I wish they'd reverse the red side one day, it'd be more intense.

Also, this sucks. I wish I wasn't going today; I'm gunna miss the reversed-ness.
