How do you make an animated gif? What software do i need? Is the software free?

You need Image Ready. Comes with photoshop which you have to pay for

Full version of Adobe (much better features) will create one too ...

Paint Shop Pro comes with Animation Shop.

Well, you can't really have the full version of Adobe because that is just the company name, not the actual software [;)]

But as for making animated .gif images, you can use one of the bunch of freeware/shareware programs out there on the net (google it..but features may not be as good), as said above animation shop is quite good, there is also Adobe Image Ready which comes with Adobe Photoshop (all version (7-8.0) as far as I know). Or if you have the cash or a connection at your school to purchase it for cheap you could opt out for Adobe CS which will give you all the creative/animation software you would need.
