Ok, first off let me say that the theory of ALL coasters using straight tracks for braking sections is completely wrong. Now as general practice for the companies that build coasters it is true on more recent coasters. However I need to point out that Revolution at SFMM Brake 2 does indeed have working and functional curved brakes. Brake 2 is located just before the loop on Revolution and as I worked on that ride during its 30th year of operation, I have ridden it many times to the point that I know the brakes and the layout of where the brakes are. Thank you for your time. Now please STOP complaining about curved brakes.

Thank you.

How brakes are curved depends on the way the fins are positioned. If the fins of the brakes are vertical, the track can have a vertical curve.

Are the fins horizontal, you can make level turns.

But a combination of both will result in broken fins.

actually no. Revolution has both vertical and horizontal brakes at brake 2. and both are curved.

Tyre brakes (however rare) will work with multiplane directional changes

That's odd. I wonder how they pull that togehter without damaging the brakes

You couldn't, if the brakes used fins. If it is true that the brakes are on a section of track that changes direction in both a horizontal and vertical plain at the same time, then the brakes must NOT be fins, this is impossible.

Yeah that's ok on certain styles. Or when its curved in a normal fashion. But some people put brakes that are on pieces of track that are wavy and odd, that's what we're talking about. Plus, you cant put a turning brake on a b&M, intamin, premier or vekoma.

ok the way it works on revolution is that as soon as the ride tops out at the entrance to brake 2 the curving of the vertical brake fins start. then halfway through the curve the horizontal brake fins come in to play as backups. The vertical fins are about 6 to 8 inches in length. the horizontal are the length of one car on Revolution.

i'm just going to complain about the brakes on revolution in general.. come on.. practically stopping the train out of the tunnel into the second to last turn and then the sudden stop before the helix? and dont give me any crap about capacity.. they used to run at least 4 trains full tilt back in it's day .. shame shame..and dont give me any crap about maintenance , if they had the money for a deja vu they had the money to restore it for it's 25th birthday..

a wish that were true that they made revolution better. I think it would have been cool. Deja vu was a waste of money in the park...

I think the new coaster in 2010 is going to be a waste of money, that is if it's not a kiddie coaster. I mean, what? Is SF trying to compete with CP? In 2010, if CP doesen't add a new coaster, SFMM will tie the record for most coasters. Never been, but from what I heard about it, SF should just use that money to improve on the other coasters they already have, not add a 17th coaster to a collection that is pretty unique, including the only 4d coaster in the western hemisphere. Do they really need it?

They're trying to expand the age group's there. A more broader age group just might help with the attendance issues they been having lately. Besides I think the whole competition between any park is at a halt until the Economy at least get's a little better. Especially here in frigin California, the most retard-en-est state ever....yes I just made up a word.

On the whole Revolution curved brakes and what not....really really really late here guys.....really late[stoning]
Sometimes you gotta sacrifice a little bit of yourself to get the job done.
