Been playing NL since '03. Only gripe I had with it was the way the coasters would sound. It's not bad but could be better. Sh*, why not allow people to choose a lift sound?

If I made a big coaster, I want to hear this:

On NL it sounds weak.

Also, with the coasters themselves, mainly steel, how about hearing screeching sounds? For example, when I was waiting in line for Deja Vu, when the trains pass, you can hear the unsettling screeching sound as they zoom past. And also put wind gusting by.

I hope they do that in NL 2, either that or I hope they make it more open for mods.

i agree. the steel coasters just get higher pitched when they go faster, and it doesnt really even sound like a real steel coaster. thats actually a good idea too to be able to pick your sound for your coaster.

I agree. Need to spend time and make some sexy sounds for NL 2.

The sounds suck, the wind sound of traveling faster can get annoying, but really IDGAF.

The sounds are ok...but they should have the good old B&M "Roar" and maybe have wood coasters squeal a bit when they zip around low banked turns. And to have more realistic chain sounds. The wood sound is ok...but the Arrow, B&M, Gerstlauer, and Schwartzkopf styles all have a different sound on their lifts. Even B&M inverts sound different from floorless coasters like Hydra. OH! And when LIM coasters launch...how about making the LIMs scream like on the impulse coasters? That'd be nasty.

True, the wood gets repetative though. Like if your riding a long wood coaster, you hear the same sound looping and only speeding up. Like you said, I want to hear screaching and rattling.

Most games/sims have had a mix of good sounds and bad and NL is no exception though NL seems to have more bad sounds than good IMO.

NL: Current steel lift is ok, way too quiet though. Steel train running is horrible. Wooden sounds are ok except train running is somewhat off. Brakes are fair for wooden coasters but the old steel clamping sound they never replaced is pretty bad. Friction wheel sounds are great as far as I can tell.

RCT2: Good B&M sounds and amazing wooden coaster sounds. Train running sounds very surprisingly similar to what you hear when riding an old wooden coaster and the lift is pretty good too. Everything reused from RCT1 is garbage though.

RCT3: Mostly crap. Train running is ok.

SM: Steel train running is the best in any sim so far but still lacking fidelity. Chain lift is alright.

HR: LIM's are by far the best of any game/sim. Chain lifts and brake clampings are reasonably decent and the rest isn't as good.

Most people should notice some similarities between NL's steel train running and RCT1's steel train running. NL's simply sounds like a lower pitched version of RCT's

I'd definitely really like to hear a good new set of ride sounds for NL2 though. For anyone who comes home from a trip to the park and goes on NL1 it becomes obvious just how bad some of the sounds are. Of course, the paper catwalks, trees, and station are probably much more obvious though.

The problem is that its not very easy to synthesise a varying loop of a roller coaster, Let alone make it realistic. Sure sampling could work, But you'd need to edit the sample so much. I agree that the sounds are lame, but I'm sure NL2 will have new sounds, or even customizable ones.

I sorta agree. Sounds are completley uninspired, but you have the option for less friction, Which is always cool.

@Haz: Of course there will be limitations on looping samples, but nonetheless as I mentioned above a lot of sims get VERY good sounds. I think it's a matter of taking the right sound samples since I'm thinking many of NL sounds were just "made up" if you know what I mean. A great example of comparison is RCT2's woodie train running and lift compared to NL's and compared to actual rides. NL's wooden brake sounds are pretty good though.

Customizability is the way to go. Not only would new sounds for NL2 be a nice refresh of the feel (I suspect they WILL make new sounds, after all they already got a lot of new sounds in for weather, walking on different surfaces, etc.) but customizability allows for those odd non-coaster or fantasy coaster rides to be done.
