As many of you may have heard Cyclone is given one more year to say goodby to Astroland and all the rides that surround it. instead the park will stay close in 2009. The wole park will be destroyed in 2009 but Cyclone will not be affected and will operate as a "Come ride our rollercoaster" type tourist attraction [lol]

Disscuss.....

A come to our coaster type attraction with a giant multi billion dollar condo/mall/casino eyesore next to it. Or maybe Thor Equities, the buyer of Astroland, may just get the area rezoned as residental and then flip it.

This is great news though, I love Astroland and Coney Island. That's one more season to ride Astroland's insanely run Breakdance and Top Spin 2 as well!

In more recent news, the city of New York is trying to buy the land from developer Thor Equities. The city wants to keep the amusement zones for amusements only (as opposed to making them residential and reducing the amount of amusements under Thor's plans.) Here's a link showing renderings of what is proposed: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/html/coney_island/coneyisland3.shtml

Certainly better than what Thor wanted (ie. basically nothing in way of amusement rides.) I've heard that the city is looking to have Tivoli operate the amusement area.

You know it seems to me that these condo/shop/restaurant developments are going up like crazy and it's unfortunate that in 10 years time some of them will be empty. Does it not matter that people may want to still go to an amusement park, or that trees sustain life? Guess not--unfortunately it's a money game. Oh well!!
