My Email to the NL team:

I was curious if you have an idea on when the 1.5 update will be
available for macs, I checked the website and could only find the PC
update. I understand that you and the NL team are taking your own time
to create this simulator, but I find it a bit aggravating that the PC
version to be released earlier than the mac version. Anyway, any sort
of response is appreciated!

Response:

It will take 3 or 4 weeks until the Mac update will be ready. We are a small
company and need to do the updates one after the other. Sorry for the delay.

Many Regards,
Joerg

Great, so maybe if us mac users are lucky we will get it before Halloween. I figured that now NL is being sponsered by Vekoma that they could pick up the pace a bit, guess I was wrong, its actually taking LONGER!

Ah poor you. Anyways i found out Vekoma supported when i wrote a letter saying to Vekomma what programs do you use to design their products. They said autocad, but they though i was some dumb child, so they said here ya go and play with nolimits. No offence to anybody here. Only at cs.om

lol, that sounds familiar, I got that response from someone, and then I replied telling them I already had it, and I was just curious. The person wrote back telling me how he felt like an idiot, it was quite funny.

Or maybe we could grow up a little bit and cut Ole some slack.

You guys were a version ahead of us when the mac version came out. So now you whine about getting it later? Heck, they shouldn't have even made a mac version! Making us wait an extra 6 mounths for 1.5! But seriously, don't expect macs to be able to have everything, almost all games are released for Windows.

?? Whats to take offense to? what does CS have to do with Vekoma or how long the updates take? Quite confused...

Anyways,
Vekoma Im quite sure uses a mixture of AutoCad and propritary products they coded themselves.

In fact, most of their work is done by most likly a computer that crunches formulas to design the tracks. They most certainly use AutoCad to design their trains, track and other mechanical components. They only use NoLimits as a way to make their products into a 3d, viewable entity for customers and enthusiasts to look at. I doubt HIGHLY they build in NL...its only to give a rough estimate of what it will look like.

[EDIT] BTW, if Im not mistaken, the last time I saw emails from that Joerge guy, hes always been totally off.

Yea I sure hope so, I hope he is wrong (no offense).

Umm yea so we had a vertex panel, wow get the champaigne. As of now we have the track packager unpackager (Thanks Riscit) and the calculator, and I am not being ungrateful but you guys have all these tools that almost build the track for you. I just think that they should of held the update for 1.5 until the mac version was complete. I would of favored the same decision if the mac version was done first, I wouldnt mind it be held back until the PC version was done.

Or maybe we could grow up a little bit and cut Ole some slack.

Riscit I really appreciate your track packager for mac, believe me and I am not trying to put more wieght on Ole's shoulders, but it would be nice if they could stick to their end of the bargain and keep the releasal dates together. I really dont care no more, I'll wait, its just aggravating.

I'll further add that the Mac calculator had 2 formulas before the Win32 version did. ;)

> all these tools that almost build the track for you.

No.. Ole has that one, and I don't think he'll be sharing anytime soon. ;)

Tia's tools really don't make things THAT much easier. They're a big help for certain specialized tasks, but you certainly can do everything you need to do with out them (3ds track export not withstanding, and since a good 3d editor is hard to come by on a mac anyway, that's not a big loss)

Looking ahead, you may get some of those tools anyway... Just have to get over this track file format specification hurdle. Though I'll say it now - the Construction Kit is NOT at the top of my list of "Tia Apps" that I'd like to port. It's 3rd. A full Packager is 1st. I'll let you wonder what's 2nd.

> it would be nice if they could stick to their end of the bargain

Ok.. what's our end?

Oh.. and I appreciate the praise, but please avoiding calling it a "track packager" - I get enough email from people asking how to use it to package their tracks as it is. ;)

Our end of the bargain is that we are the paying customers, not that we have to pay for the update, but for the product as a whole. I did overexaggerrate the fact that Tia's tools builds the tracks for you, but it makes elements for you, smooths vertexes, and other tools. Ole has a tool that builds a track for him? Interesting, is this available somewhere? I bet its just an elementary program that lets you actually construct a track in it, or maybe its that other wizard that someone else was working on a little while back.

So you're saying that they should delay the PC release even though it was aready done?

Maybe they could try that next time I guess... BTW, a mac the only thing you have?

Hmm... GTA San Andreas release is in the coming days (if it wasn't released allready). PC release is late next year. Should I start complaining?

I really see no point in holding back updates for one platform just to get it out at the same time. The last update was exclusive to Mac, yet I didn't see anyone complain about it.

Buster.

Thats because that update had a vertex panel and keyboard controls. This update has new coaster types and shuttle coasters. See the difference?

Yes, and keep on complaining untill it comes out, and when it comes out complain some more. Then after continue complaining everytime someone mentions something about the game...

I think i may know why it takes longer. Mac Coding is not the same a coding for a PC. Different command structure can make the same piece of code do some thing different on a mac than it would on a pc. For Example, if you have a statement that says "If app.game.sim = true then Run app.game.sim Else End" This would work on a pc, however, a mac may not be able to interpret what "app.game.sim" is and therefore not run the code.

yeah, you don't see me complaining for Halo 2 to come out on PC do you? I realize you can't always get what you want, and some times you have to wait, and often times it comes out better for you in the end. Ex. Halo for PC got bonus multiplayer maps, and weapons, and internet play, while halo on xbox didn't get as many multiplayer levels, and the weapons, so I'm guessing when Halo 2 is eventually released for PC, it will have material for it that xbox didn't have, but until then, I guess I'll have to play it at some one elses house, [:P]
