Yes, Silver Bullet uses a magnet. LIM stands for Linear Induction Motor- an electro magnet that is used to propel the train forward/backward. The ones used for braking however are just permanent magnets. For B&M's, only on hills, nothing that turns. Intamins could potentially have brakes on a turn, but they just use transport wheels on a block as a brake. A good example is Xcelerator.
