Yeah the first, third, MCBR, and final drops when in the back row are some of my favorite moments on any ride. So well done. Because of the geometry, the first in particular seems much longer than it really is, which is great too.

Out of the hypers Ive been on:

1. Goliath SFOG
2. Diamondback
3. Apollo
4. Raging Bull
5. Nitro

With that being said all of them are safely in my top 10. I love them! (Bizarro, Maverick, Storm Runner, Shockwave, etc make up the rest of my top 10 steel)

Apollo's Chariot is the only B&M hyper i've been on and it was decent at best. Im sure it ranks near the bottom. I know that B&m has done a lot better

Cyclone @ sfne is definately under-rated. It kicks ass!

My first time there I was slightly underwhelmed by the ride, but thought it was better in the back, since the somewhat laggy parts mostly affect the front. The second time I went to Hershey I noticed that the launch speed was much faster, as seen from the greatly increased pacing over the tophat. The lag was gone which made the front much better than before. Can't decide whether I prefer front or back now, but both were really amazing. Front row at night was especially great.

The flying snake dive is one of my favorite elements on any ride. It is just so freaking crazy!
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

Yeah i have always noticed that but i thought it was just me. The drop just seems to go forever especially in the back, and as a kid when drops were actually scary this was really thrilling. It really is a great drop.

^^^dcs i meant cyclone. The joke doesnt work if its stormrunner.

but yeah stormrunner does ride pretty well in the back. I personally thought it was a bit better in the middle-front, because it has some great ejector going into the snake dive. And yes the launch was incredible when i went. Quick, sweet, powerfull, and raw. Right up there with volcanos launch for me.

Edit: And the top hat carried alot of speed and had GREAT ejector all the way over! Which i didnt see coming after ttd and kk.

No its amazing. Trust me ive ridden it many times, many of them in a row, in the back, and it is a top ten wooden coaster to me. So much airtime and lats.

I completely agree. One of the best parts is how it is banked to much in some cases so the lats are the wrong way. Great airtime too. I'd say it is a close second to Bizarro.

I think so too! And I know quite a few who agree other than you! I love the first drop and turn which are now very smooth in their own weird way, and then the way youre turning then it just drops out, and gives more speed and airtime. Then there is that valley with the wrong way lats and you fly up that huge hill that sways, which i can never beleive it makes it all the way up that thing. I love how the ride has multiple big drops that all have insane airtime because they are shaped so badly. The best is the one after the second high turn that dives into the structure and has amazing headchoppers.

Image

Then at the end it has a great turn that provides first normal lats as you dive down, then inward from over banking, then as you go back up there are normal lats, then suddenly you pitch to the other side of the car while you have decent airtime lifting you out of your seat (my second favorite part of the ride after the head chopper drop). And when the trims are low or off, the insanity continues into the brakes.

Image

Overall the ride is unlike any other wooden coaster i have ever ridden, and after the most recent retracking of the coasters rougher parts it is really getting better and better, and they dont keep the trims on as high.

Someone who has thoroughly enjoyed the ride I must say! [:D]

I rode Cyclone at AstroWorld, one of the most nostalgic and fun rides i've ever been on. That drop looks to be about near-vertical, but it's not, it was just my 12 yr. old mind thinking it was at the time. [:P]
"Don't be a disability"... yep, still keeping that. :P

Why are you guys talking about wood coasters in a B&M hyper thread?

While Im not doubting the video of Goliath LaRond there is one huge problem. That video was not at 30fps, not even close. Its 24 or lower and that will make things seem a bit faster since frames are basically missing to smooth it out. When having smooth peripheral motion is so important to telling speed relative to the surroundings, anything less than 24 (24 is typical movie rate) can throw off your sense of speed.

Sorry guys, was doing stuff with video and framerates and timecodes and all that crap.

There are multiple vids which show the train going over those hills at the same speed.
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

Again, I wasn't saying it wasn't going fast, just saying thats a poor video to use. Read the first line I wrote, you'll see I wasn't debating that fact.

Just that the low frame rate is accelerating the actual speed, that much I know is true.

Thats also old news. Rides been around for how long? 4 years? Just a poor video.
