The Koch family has been successful in talks with the Kentucky State Fair Board and they will open Bluegrass Boardwalk in May of 2013. See here for more or just look at the story quoted below.

Kentucky Kingdom is now Bluegrass Boardwalk

Image

The former Kentucky Kingdom theme park, once a part of the Six Flags family, quite literally received a new lease on life today when the Kentucky Fair Board approved a new lease with Bluegrass Boardwalk Inc.

Revitalized rides and attractions, alongside new ones, a friendly clean atmosphere, free amenities such as sunscreen and soft drinks, and plenty more are what will greet guests to Bluegrass Boardwalk when the 57 acre amusement and water park opens in 2013.

The team behind the park's revival are several Koch family members, owners of the Holiday World theme park. At the vote today, Dan Koch, Holiday World President, promised the park's reopening could bring 800 seasonal jobs, as well as 25 full time positions.

Bluegrass Boardwalk will be operated with the similar style and care that has made Holiday World a success on so many levels. ??????We??????re bringing our business model of exceptional safety, cleanliness, friendliness and value for families,?????? says Natalie Koch.

??????We can??????t wait to get started!?????? says Bluegrass Boardwalk??????s Dan Koch. ??????We??????ve got a lot of work to do to get the park reopened in just 15 months, but we??????ll get it done. We??????d like to thank the Fair Board for putting their faith in us and the community at large for their tremendous cheers of support.??????

The company will renovate and expand the park using private money, up to $20 million in investments will bring the park up to date. Possible sales tax incentives could be applied for, but public money will not be utilized in the reopening.

We can be sure that there will be plenty of developments between present and the park's grand opening, but we look forward to the rebirth and transformation of the park!

Would this be the same Koch family that's been the masterminds behind destroying our country? Or is it a different family?

Holiday world is one of my favorite amusement parks by far. Extremely affordable, very fun, clean, very nice atmosphere. If the Koch family can run Bluegrass the same way as HW, I will be sold! I just hope they can hold up in the legendary coaster department like they have for HW, down at Bluegrass; mainly since I am not a huge fan of waterparks.

I am so excited for this! It's an hour and a half closer to me than holiday world is! I may have to buy a season pass if it turns out nicely. I can't wait.

This is great for me, I live only 2 hours from Louisville and visited Kentucky Kingdom when it was still functioning, exciting! :)
Oh are you confused about where the reply is? Well look directly above this and kablammo! There it is!

^lol He actually lives near me (apparently). Like, in the same town. We exchanged a few PMs once, but we never met.

Speaking of Bluegrass Boardwalk, next year I will be at UK, which will bring me much closer to BGB, KI, and HW. Which will be nice.

As much as I like it, there aren't any large bodies of water to call it a "boardwalk". Not necessarily understanding where they got the name, but I guess it suits.

On the other hand I'm stoked for the park. Very nice to see developing going on in this place- it's been dead in the water for a few years now. It's especially exciting that Holiday World owners will take control.

Can't wait to see this develop!

I wonder if Thunder Run, the wood coaster, will be operating. The track should be pretty rusty by now. I'm sure there has been no maintenance on Thunder Run since the Park closed in 2009.

Also would like to see a real band organ in the Merry-Go-Round, instead of recorded music.

If they can't get it working, I don't really think anyone else can unfortunately.
