A 17-year-old Michigan teen celebrating his high school graduation at Cedar Point Wednesday is "OK and talking" after being struck by lightning, according to his 19-year-old brother.

Camren Vontersch was leaving the park around 5 p.m. because of Wednesday's sudden afternoon rainstorm when he was struck in the parking lot, said Sean Vontersch, who was at the park with his brother.

"He looked up and said, 'Give me a big one,'" and he got struck by lightning," Sean Vontersch said, laughing, when he recalled what his brother told him about the accident

[lol] Moral of this story, dont look up and say 'Give me a big one'. Just thought i would share

You would have expected the lightning to hit TTD rather than the parking lot though. Lightning always tries to find the easiest route to the ground

you're right, it would be more logicaly that he would have been hit if was on top of TTD of MF, but is guess they weren't operating due to the weather.
Does anybody btw know what kind of damage the kid has?

I don't know alot about the conduction of electricity but even if it did strike TTD you wouldn't know right? I mean it would just go right to the ground, I sure it does hit TTD alot, maybe it was just that 1% chance scenerio.

Just because they arn't operating doesn't mean they can't get struck by lightning. Unless Cedar Point dismantles the rides everytime it rains [:o)]

If you were touching the track when it did, you could still get fried. Even if you weren't touching the track but standing around it you could still get fried like an egg.

Anyways, that must really suck lol. Zues must have been pissed off that day.

Well, lightning is hotter than the surface of the sun. If you got hit by it you sure would know about it, even if you wernt electrocuted. You'd also be deafened as lightning is several hundred db and the humans pain threshold is 140db

Another thing to remember is that most of these people arent directly hit by the lightning itself. As the lightning nears the ground every object gives off an electrical charge and lightning usualy follows the path which is the closest to them. Its more likely that it was just the electrical discharge that hit the boy

I was talking about the boy that got hit, if HE was on one of the rides, THEN he would have a larger change of getting hit by lightning

well honestly, I wasn't planning on looking into the sky and saying "gimme a big one" and this is just more reason not to do so. It looks like God has a sense of humour after all ... striking ejits with lightning, flooding the world and killing everyone, letting Hitler kill all them Jews ..... pretty good set of practical jokes if you ask me [lol]
