Well I'm in a predicament. Should I buy NL 1.7 or should I patiently wait for NL 2. First of all I casually use 1.5 and I am happy with it and besides my graphics card can barely handle it anyway. What are some thoughts.

if your graphics card can't handle 1.5 I wouldn't upgrade to 1.7 before you have a new graphics card. If you wait till 2 you definatly gonna need a new card. 2 is going to be a lot heavier then 1.7 now is. not even talking about 1.5.
If you upgrade your graphics card in now and a month or 2 i would buy 1.7 because 2 is still far away.

Uhh, just to get things correct, you buy NL1.6, and get a free download for NL1.7.

Get a new graphics card, something from either ATI or NVidea. Then buy NL1.6, and download NL1.7. It's worth it. And yeah, if your graphics card can barely handle NL1.5, then NL2.0 will not even run properly with it.

NL 2 is still has a indefinite release date, sometime in 2 years
Ole has said that he will continue to support NL 1.x, maybe u will see a 1.8 and 1.9 sometime between now and NL 2

I would suggest that you get 1.6 (hense 1.7), im sure that it will work with ur graphics card, if u keep the settings low enough (like, no reflective water)
or get a new one if u wish, a Nvidia GeForce 7 series should be enough if your are just going to use it for NL, however GeForce 8 series are getting cheaper, and of cource u will have Directx 10 for more heavier games if you wish

Not ATI. I recomend Anything NVidea that supports SLI. and is Direct x 10 Compatible. ATI does'nt work too well on NoLimits 1.7

^umm, I'm pretty sure that was a joke. I've got an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500, and It runs NL 1.7 (with many of the high settings on, e.g. reflective, complex water, best lighting, but also some lower settings including low texture detail, etc.) at about 20-30 FPS. It can get as low as 4-5 if there is a lot of scenery, and on heavily terrained rides, it normally runs in about the 10-15 range. btw my card cost me like 40 bucks.

NL2 won't be released anytime soon, it's a huge project that is still in it's early stages. Unless you want to wait a few more years, just buy 1.6, download the 1.71 update, and set the graphics settings at whatever your card can handle. If your video card can handle 1.5, you shouldn't have any problems with 1.71

I have a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GTX on my Laptop. I get 100 FPS fairly consistently, even with 3DS intensive "FPS Killer" tracks. My resolution is 1920 x 1200, Textures on High, LOD distance on Far, and Reflections on Everything. If I pull the plug on my laptop my FPS drop to 30, but generally, I'm plugged in and enjoying a crisp 100 FPS with my NVIDIA.

I've always been satisfied with NVIDIA graphics cards. I had an ATI in my old laptop, and was disappointed with it. I mean, I figure that a laptop graphics card will not be able to perform at the same level as a tower's card, but the ATI was always weak. Back when RCT3 first came out I installed it on both my Tower with a NVIDIA and my then on my laptop with an ATI. I can't remember the specs on those machines exactly, but the tower was a couple years old at that point and the laptop was brand new. The tower could handle higher resolutions, and many more graphical options with RCT3 than my laptop, even though the tower was older and RCT3 was made for ATI cards.

I would whole heartedly recommend NVIDIA based on my experiences, but you are entitled to your opinion.

I also agree with Casper, no one knows with NL 2.0 is going to be out, not even Ole. NL 1.7 wouldn't be a bad investment, and you'll probably be covered for all updates until 2.0 does come out.

No Limits isn't expensive, i suggest you buy 1.6/1.7 and just tune the graphic settings down.

I should buy 1.7 if I was ypu, waiting more than a year for NL2 is so boring.
On my Mac I have always 100 fos wit everything on high, and Quality on 2.
I love it.

I plan on getting a new compy before 2.0 comes out like a Mac 1.5 runs on my current compy with the graphics settings tuned down. I mean if you had asked me a few years ago yeah I would be flipping out because my computer can barely handle 1.5 but being in college I only have so much time to donate to coasters.

stop smoking crack nub

ATI works just as well as nVidia if you get the right card. Also, you can't just upgrade to a dx10 compatible card... the rest of your computer has to be able to support this. That means having a faster processor and a motherboard which supports pci express and runs the card smoothly without bottle necking the gpu.

So with that maybe its time that you, OP, start looking at a new machine in general?

No. You are totally missing a third graphics card to SLI. Come on, only 1gb of ram? Pssht! You HAVE to have at least 1.5gb these days [;)]

Drop the quad core, get a E8400. No need for quads unless you do extreme video editing. Also, why do you need SLI? If you NEED SLI then get 2 9600gt's. They get better SLI performance than 2 8800gt's in SLI.

Quads would come in handy if you are editing and processing hundreds of images in Adobe Lightroom as well. Actually, I would go 64bit for that anyways because when it comes to images you can never have enough ram. And with 4 cores you can have like 4gb per core....16gb total :P

well i will probably have my own compy by the time nl2 comes out, and if i do then i will be screwed because i will probably hae to buy nl1 again, not good, but me and my bro have worked out, that with his help, a relatively high end compy would be around ?????????400 if built by us from scratch, the idea is that i get a temp, raise some funds, buy myself a computer so i can do the stuff i want in peace and work on nl properly along with other things such as course work, hopefully go to uni and get a degree in engineering and continue on from there, only problem is taht it probably won't like that, main factor being getting the temp, getting into to college and getting into uni.

DAMN! the world is too awkward!
Cradled by two loving arms that I'd die for,
One little kiss and Felina goodbye.
