I've started this topic to see some future people who will be going into the same job I will persue. The job I will be persuing is rollercoaster designing. Is anyone else persuing/or going to be in that career. Maybe one day I'll see one of you creating rollercoasters like me and designing them.

Isn't that what most people on this site would say? Maybe one of us will make it to that level.

So far math and science are superior when it comes to my knowledge. Ive always wanted to pursure engineering.

i am interested in becoming a united states history teacher. and in my spare time i plan on running/working for a architectural design company. i honestly can see myself doing both things the rest of my life, as i know i would highly enjoy it. most likely in 08 i will be attending the university of nebraska, double majoring in architectural design and in united states history.

then again, if all goes well for me, in 10 years i will be working for intamin....but we all know this isnt going to happen. HAHAHA just like it wont happen for almost everyone on this site.

^well, it seems that a lot of people designed in coaster design have engineering degrees, preferrably civil or mechanical.

italianpnoy12, you're going to need a lot of skill in math/science to pursue that... where are you planning on getting your education at?

Personally, I would love to design coasters (though probably specific components rather than layouts per se) or be involved in the amusement industry someday when I grow up. I will be getting started on my BS in mechanical engineering this fall at Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute, IN. For those that don't know, Rose is the #1 undergrad engineering program in the US. Still, working in the field seems like a dream rather than much of a reality at this point.

Back to the topic of qualifications of coaster designers, most companies that build the rides are just looking for people with engineering degrees and a knowledge/experience in the field. A few that I have looked into say that's it's best to work somewhere in the amusement industry before seeking a major, full-time job at a company like Intamin or B&M etc.

This fall I start my freshman year of college! My major will be in Mechanical Engineering. I really enjoy modern day engineering of pretty much anything structural and such, bridges, buildings, machinary, you name it. I was debating on civil engineering, but mechanical had more cool stuff to learn! ;)

Computer Graphics Technology at Purdue is my current major.
This can range anywhere from Pixar to graphics for the local news shows and magazine ads. Its a huge field. I honestly don't know where I'll end up.

Rocketboy, Rose is a good school, I know a few people out there. good luck.

I've got your answers! I did a quick research and yeah..

Roller-coaster designers work in structural, mechanical and electronic engineering. All of these fields require at least a bachelor's degree in engineering.

Ron Toomer is a consultant director at a U.S. roller-coaster design company. He says his company looks for applicants with an engineering degree and a minimum of three years of experience in heavy machine design. "I like to look for people who like to mess around and build cars," he says.

"We get engineers who only know how to use computers," he adds. "They don't know how to question what the computer comes up with." Look for an engineering school with a work co-op or internship program in order to get hands-on experience.

If your university doesn't have a co-op arrangement, you might want to apply for a summer job with one of the manufacturers.

I want to become an architect. OR Civil engineering looks good, my Dads a civil engineer so ive been bought up with engineering, and have always wanted to do something like that.

I used to want to design roller coasters, but i gave up on that ages ago. Theres so many people who want to do it, and only like a few will, and they are all more suited to it than me. But if thats what you really want, dont give up on it.

I think the job of designing rollercoasters isover glorfied through a coasyer enthusiasts job. As John Wardley put, 99% of the time you are stuck in an office or having meetings. Designing rollercoasters or any type of ride is a long process. It is absolutly nothing like just drawing some sketches and seeing if it works (like NL for example) It's a long hard job, which will takes years and years of training and thats only if you make the grade. Personaly, I think I would be bored to death designing rollercoasters for a living, after all, only one or two rollercoasters are actualy built by one designer a year

I however want to go for a more extravagent lifestyle and pursue a career in music. It is my dream to play live on stage in front of thousands of people, I could never ever sit in an office for the rest of my life...I couldn't sit through meetings or be inside

Anyone can reach a goal in life. Its all about effort and how much work you put in.
You can be what you want if you put your mind into it.
Personally i beleive i'm going to persue in graphic design. I fell that this is a flexible job and can be done from the comfort of your own home.
Although i would like to go into Rollercoaster design obviously.
I've been in touch with John Wardley via e-mail and he said exactly what i said above. You can be anything when you put your mind to it.

I must pass in Physics which is my strong point when it come to science so thats a good thing.
Also geography, you need to know about the ground and controlling the climate.
But John said you dont have to be extravertaly clever to do his job, he said its mostly about comman sense.

I'de rather be into grapic design because its a versitile job.

^^To add to what Edge said, Stengel and his team reported back on Typhoon and alot of behind the scenes info to www.coastersandmore.de.

I think he said somewhere in there that if they took all the calculations from that ride and printed them on paper it would require 33,000 sheets of paper. So yea...you better have a very, very fond love of math and numbers.

I dont. Which is why I cant pursue the career I would like.

Life isnt about a career imo. Ive seen too many adults in my life who all they did was pursue a career and ended up very, very lonely and empty. Most of them didnt have families and had very little else. Just themselves, a fancy apartment with lots and lots of money and gadgets but no one to share it with.

I'm looking at geology. Roller coaster design is a tad too hard to get into. Right now I'd say it's basically impossible.

I was studying Mechtronics/Electro-Mechanical Engineering (whatever you want to call) which is basically robotics but thanks to the strike at all the colleges here I can expect only expect a job at McDonalds. Image
