Carolina Cobra to Strike at Carowinds for 2009
Carowinds announces plans for its new coaster
Charlotte, N.C. ?????? There??????s a new species coming to the Carolinas, but this is no animal! Carolina Cobra is an innovative new scream machine that will be the park??????s 12th roller coaster when it makes its much-anticipated debut at Carowinds in 2009.

Carowinds, a 112-acre amusement park located on the border of the Carolinas, will debut Carolina Cobra in early spring 2009. This rebellious 125-foot-tall steel coaster will stand as the second tallest coaster in the park. This large new addition will hover near the entrance of Boomerang Bay, and, coincidentally, happens to be a ??????boomerang?????? coaster, meaning that it will travel the same track forwards and backwards.

The boomerang experience is unlike any coaster at Carowinds. Riders on the Carolina Cobra are pulled up a steep 125-foot lift hill and sent diving down a 120-foot drop, speeding along a 65-degree descent into three inversions, including a cobra roll and a 360-degree loop. The train is then ??????caught?????? by another lift hill, and, once it looses momentum, is towed to the top as riders wait in anticipation for the second descent. When the train is finally released, riders are sent racing into the inversions again??????except this time in reverse!

In addition, Carolina Cobra is adorned with a newly designed train exclusive only to its tracks. No other parks in the United States have yet to utilize this spacious style of train, designed specifically for a heightened rider-experience. This new sleek 28 passenger train will create an aerodynamic experience unlike any other on a coaster as riders undergo the sensations of wind and speed at an amplified level. With its narrowed nose and widened harnesses, Carolina Cobra is sure to provide a smooth ride.

"Carowinds has always been a perfect blend of family-entertainment and thrill attractions," said John Shanrock, the park??????s vice president and general manager. ??????For 2009, however, we plan to tilt the scale more to the thrill side! Carolina Cobra will be exhilarating and unlike any coaster that we house at this park. Only serious thrill-seekers should venture into the queues of this towering twisting serpent.??????

Another relocation from Geauga Lake, the coaster formerly known as Head Spin will provide the guests of Carowinds with headbanging in 2009.

I'm not sure the new trains make much of a difference, it's still Vekoma.

The new trains will make a difference because there is nothing to hit your head against. Great Nor'Easter, an SLC, at Morey's Piers has similar restraints. They're like the restraints on B&M flyers with the lapbar and rubber vest type thing.

In any case, I always thought that Boomerangs were pretty smooth myself, as long as they don't use the old Arrow trains.

It's a really big shame they won't be using trains, like the ones on Boomerang at Wiener Prater...
They only have a lapbar, and the cars are pretty open, so they give complete freedom while riding.
I have to say, that I absolutely love that boomerang, it's really smooth. Has some laterals, but they're actually fun with those trains...
The trains on the picture still seem to be WAY to restricting...

Uhg, a Vekoma! And a relocated one! Even though I'll probably never ride this, and it's marketable as hell to the GP in the area as there isn't anything else like it in Carowinds' market, I still have to bitch about it on internet forums because it has the name Vekoma on it and might shake me up a bit if I ever do ride it. And I haven't even been on a Vekoma that was that rough, I still have to complain about it because it's funny LOLS and the cool thing to do.

And using one train, what the hell are they thinking?!?! The capacity on this ride will be HORRIBLE! Not to mention the new train looks like it has LOTS of headbanging, despite having no restraint to bang your head on. Just the usual Vekoma stuff.

Uhmm, the track isn't the main reason for headbanging, the trains are...
Change the trains, and voila, no more headbanging...
Like said before, Boomerangs are an incredibly fun design, and I love them, just not with the old trains...

It looks great. The boomerangs are really fun its just the headbanging and the bad trains. now theres neither of them.

^optimistic. If you really were an enthusiast you would think positively about coasters.

Blind hate. People only hate Vekoma rides because it's the cool thing to do (thanks ThemeParkReview), they really aren't as bad as people say. I've ridden over 10, and there is only one that I'd be reluctant to try again (T2 at Kentucky Kingdom). I have had rougher rides on the out side seats of B&M rides than I've had on most Vekomas.

The same goes for Arrow. I can't think of ANY Arrow ride I have been on that has been bad enough where I'd say I hate it.

I really think 90% of the bitching about Vekoma and Arrow rides is unjustified. They draw GP, are marketable, unique if used in the right market, and they really aren't bad quality rides.

^Not blind hate. Coaster enthousiants have usaully ridden many coasters and in comparision Vekoma's and Arrow and way rougher than B&M's and Intamin. That's a fact.

Now, for the GP, they don't care, basically because they don't know better. They have virtually no possibillity to compare the coasters they ride.

Vekoma is just rough. But there lay-outs are pretty cool. Look at the SLC models. But these boomerangs are nothing I would go for a park to. If there's longer then 5 minutes wait I won't ride it either. But with the newer Jimmy Neutron, I see much improvement. The new trains are great as well on that one, so let's hope it will work out for this boomerang as well.

i simply don't understand why people associate vekoma with roughness....why????

ok ok , some have headbanging problems, but with new trains no more troubles at all.

vekoma is not that bad after all, and i can assure you!

the only problems are old trains that have restraints like arrow style.

i don't get it!

Even with the new restraints, there is still too much spacing between the wheels and the track, causing the train to vibrate.
So instead of banging your head, you'll be banging your neck into the restraint.
I totally give Vekoma credit for their cool and innovative designs, but there are rough.
Anyone who thinks a vekoma is smooth is either mental or hasn't ridden a B&M or Intamin.

Except Ive found their boomerangs to be some of the smoother riding rides theyve ever built. So much infact I havent been on one that wasnt quite enjoyable. I dont experience much of the vekoma nastiness and I cant really explain why. The new restraints look like flyer restraints with a softer restraint that actually holds you in with bars further out for the "If this breaks, you wont get past this" idea.

well i have ridden... 1 arrow that i can recount, corkscrew at AT, and to be fair it was a good layout, but the headbanging is horrendous! i am not a fan of the thing. i have not ridden any vekomas but G-force (which sukzord big time) as far as i am aware, unless vekoma did rattlesnake, which i loved, and that was awesome. i don't think i'm gonna burn any coaster companies simply because other people do. I'm gonna burn when I've ridden them. now my first impression of Arrow? a bad and good one, flaming? yes, why? headbanging. first impression of vekoma, bad but alright, flaming? yes. why? because their idea was good, they just carried it out wrong.
that doesn't really prove or disprove or make a point about anything, I'm just giving a poin of view. have fun.
