I was curious to who will be working at Cedar Point this summer?
I just received my contract in the mail this weekend and I am on Wildcat Crew 2008.
Anyone else?

This should be an interesting topic. It would be nice to know who is working and where, maybe I'll see someone from here when I take my CP trip this summer.

Not exactly Cedar Point, but Ohio and Cedar Fair none the less, Son of Beast Crew 2008! I'll be sure to visit you guys a few times this year, but I'm so glad we don't have to wear those stupid blue pants

I'm working there (again) this summer. Hopefully, I'll be able to get my old job as a prep cook at the Cleveland Road TGI Friday's back. That was actually enjoyable... unlike my old crappy jobs at Pretzel and Bayou. This will be my last summer there. Next year, I'm officially starting internships instead, so no more CP summers after this.

Ride op is seriously such a boring piece of crap job. I mean, it is seriously the least challenging thing you can do. It's the easiest pay check I've ever recieved. I basically show up to work. Maybe it's because I'm used to walking around, but yea, it's definately not as rewarding a job as I first thought.

On a related note, would any past employees wish to share their wisdom and persuade me away from/towards working rides at CP this year?

The pros outweigh the cons.

Yeah the hours can suck at times, 6 days out of a week you are working, the pay isn't great, and it becomes a grind. And my personal favorite, you have to deal with lots and lots of people, many of which are confused by seat belts.

On the other hand you have free admission to all Cedar Fair parks (if you can get to them :D) Theres a wide variety of people who work there, its almost impossible not to make friends. You get to see some pretty wild and crazy stuff, and you get to do some of it yourself.

The first couple of weeks get as many rides as you can in before the crowds start showing up. My first couple of weeks I probably got more rides on MF and Magnum than the rest of the summer.

And its way easier to show up for CC.com park meets when you can just ask for the day off.

How do promotions work? I was told you can be promoted very quickly... Obviously depending where they need people. This question based of Ride Op.

I really would like some explanation on why ride-op is so terrible. I'd love to operate MF, lol.

From what I have been told... TTD and MF are some of the worst coasters to operate because of the hours.

@ coasterdave
Promotions just happen. Each ride or collection of rides has a Team Leader (TL)and Assistant Team Leader (ATL)who have blue tags and are placed in charge of a given ride. Then theres all the general employees (red tag). If a blue tag isn't present you can get put in charge of the ride while he/she is on break. Sometimes you get to close the ride. And if they feel you have the right type of leadership, and theres staffing issues, you can get promoted in your first summer. But usually if you had incharge time the 1st year you can be incharge of a ride the next year.

I opted to remain a Red Tag my second summer because Blue tags generally have less fun. But at Blue Streak we lacked a ATL the whole time, so 2 of us shared that roll but remained red tags.

@tiepilot.

Don't get me wrong, the first time I sat at the controls of Raptor I was giddy, my TL who was teaching me how to operate the ride was wondering why I was so happy. I just had to explain to him how Im a coaster geek and how I thought the idea of operating the ride was so freaking cool to me.

While it is fun it starts to become repetitive. Very repetitive. Raptor was great because we had the microphone and could have fun with the safety spiels. Needless to say with MF you get tired of certain noises. The first being that crappy techno song in the station that lasts for 20 seconds. Apparently you can hear SkyHawks air compressors doing their work, and Mantis is one of the loudest rides around.

But by mid summer the only reason you want to work controls is for the Air conditioning. Unless its Blue Streak, that booth has 3 walls and is therefor unfit for A/C, it was like a heatbox at sunset.

Seriously though, don't take anything I said to dis wade you from working there. It is a blast, you learn all sorts of things about the rides themselves. You learn all the little details of the park, like the best seats to sit in and there are way to many inside jokes. But that makes it fun.

The hours almost always suck. Lots of people tend to quit, which leads to under-staffing, which leads to the infamous 70-hour weeks. As far as difficulty, I'd rank the in-park jobs as follows, beginning with the easiest:

1. Merchandise
2. Games
3. Ride Op
4. Foods

Very few people in merchandise quit. It's a fairly easy job, with stable hours. Games are also generally well-set hours, but the constant pressure to shout for guests to come over gets very annoying. Plus, you almost never get to sit. But the hours make it better. Rides are one of the more erratic divisions, and it is very long and repetitive, like CI said. Foods employees are the ones that get exploited the most. I suffered through 2 years of it, and both times more than half the crew ended up quitting, leaving the stand severely understaffed and making everyone work 60-70 hour weeks. And this was the case at most of the stands, so it wasn't just my bad luck. Pay pretty much sucks all around. It's minimum wage now, plus a 50 cent-per-hour bonus if you work every day of your contract.

So if you're gonna work at CP, merchandise and games are your best bet, but ride-op is a decent option as well. Just stay the hell away from foods. Out of the 21 friends of mine who worked in that division, 16 of them had quit before the respective summer was over.

However, once I moved out of the park and started working in the kitchen at Famous Dave's and then TGI Friday's, I've been lovin' it. Set hours, 60 hours a week constant, and $7.50 plus overtime. So if anyone likes cooking/grilling, the kitchens are actually a good option.

So... Brtnboarder495. I have been working MF for more than 2 weks now and I still haven't seen you... Hmmm...

Anyways, so far I have to agree. The hours suck! I have been working O-C for the past couple days (7:30 am - at least 12:00 am) and that sucks! The pay sucks! But, I like the job. Right now I am on MF crew. The environment is awesome. You are constantly moving, running, yelling at stupid people. I like it so far!

I am visually board trained so I am at controls from time to time. Once they were teaching me the controls I sat there trying not to push every button I saw! I love peoples reaction when I release the lap bars on Millennium. I had a person dive out of the ride because he thought it was going to move and his lap bar was up![lol] AMAZING!

^Why the heck did you guys transfer the third train on for 1 cycle, then immediately take it back off today? I was on the ride when you did that, and I didn't get it. BTW, I just got back from a free day around the park. Heck, I probably saw you but neither of us knew it.
