^ That's dorney for ya'. Bringing thrills one "new" coaster at a time

Seriously though, even the GP will recognize it as mantis if they try to market it as "new"
It's been a long time

That '96 Mantis commercial is so beyond cheesy, I liked how the video today referenced it.

I am actually surprised how many people seem to be convinced Mantis is leaving when it is pretty blatant that a transformation is being conveyed (take the last stand, saying goodbye being easy, the wayward employee guarding the trains...). Cedar Point wants the GP to think for the time being that Mantis will be no more, that's why more details haven't been announced.

I hope they don't end up calling it Rougarou, though.

Mistake number one.

Mantis is definitely being relocated. There's no way it's staying.

Literally what is the matter with you?

If we posit for a moment that Mantis is being relocated, which it's not because it is CLEARLY a cheesy marketing ploy with that checklist and whatnot, Dorney Park is NOT a priority, Valleyfair is. Its newest (non-family) coaster was Renegade and if they get nothing for the 2015 season, that will be EIGHT years out. Dorney gets three coasters in the last decade, VF has gotten one. Even Michigan's Adventure has a newer coaster than Valleyfair.

All GCI's are family coasters.

Valleyfair's nearest serious competitor is 330 miles away (SFGAdv). Mt. Olympus is over 200 miles away. Total captive customer base.

Dorney has Knoebel's, Hershey, SFGAdv, and all the Jersey shore stuff within *100* miles.

Which do you think is a priority for investment?

Don't you mean Great America?

Also, at some point you have to disregard "nearby" competition and look at from a "put-me-on-the-map" point of view. You said it yourself, Dorney has several attractions close by and people are going to be swarming that area. Valleyfair needs to be put on the map, and Cedar Fair definitely seems to be addressing this. Large 2015 waterpark expansion and several rumors of a 2016/2017 spotlight coaster addition. When they get Valleyfair one more large coaster, it will finally become an extremely worthwhile park for which people will begin to go out of their way. This prospect of expansion is definitely more important for Cedar Fair *right now* than the nearby competition issue.

With all of this said, I still do not think Mantis is going to be relocated, even though that check list did say it. That's definitely just pullin' our leg. A paint job and a floorless conversion is a spectacular decision for Cedar Point in my opinion. But I agree with whoever said they hope it is not named "Rougarou."

Valleyfair is in the north. Unless you're surrounded by frigid north where people are used to it like Canada's Wonderland is, nobody from afar wants to go to cold areas unless it's for skiing or one of the "major cities" (the county Minneapolis is in has 1/3 of what the county Chicago has, and SFGAm can also draw from Milwaukee and larger suburbs in general). You can't really give the place a booming waterpark because the climate is crap and it doesn't have the stupidity of the white trash element to draw from like Wisconsin Dells. Also there isn't really anything pretty around Valleyfair either. Minnesota is the same as Wisconsin, it has one section worth seeing and the rest of the residents all have a random cabin on a crappy lake. They all say their lake is the best even though they're all the same and riddled with insects. Nobody is ever willing to move and gets viciously homesick over nothing. I wouldn't invest 20 million in that place either just based on location.

I see what you mean, but keep in mind that 2 of those 3 are small shuttle coasters that a. are ride relocation
b. are both inverted shuttles at that and c. they are right next to each other. I agree Valleyfair needs new stuff but Dorney has also been put on the back burner a lot too, with most of the bigger parks getting 2 or 3 brand new coasters in the last decade, plus general improvements where dorney is becoming cedar fair's used ride grave yard. I would like to see cedar fair start investing in all of their smaller parks again.
What are these for?

Anyway, it's blatantly obvious that it isn't getting moved. The PR is all wrong. The 'target' park would have had an announcement on their own.

^True. Also, they said in the teaser, "goodbyes are never easy. In this case it is" or something like that. While I do agree vallyfair needs a new coaster, I don't think it's happening because of the blatantly obvious hints in the video

With the whole "DP Stands with CP" thing, bear in mind that Dorney Park actually has a somewhat indirect connection to Mantis. The original logo that was to be used when Mantis was still being called Banshee got recycled for Steel Force, so I wonder if this is where they're getting some of these throw-em-off-the-scent hints from.

I started to forget about how narrow you were but hi again you!

Don't forget that Shakopee draws from the TWIN cities...two very large metro areas.
The central southern Minnesota area has 4 months of extremely hot summers.

But it should have been obvious you've never visited Valleyfair when you thought Renegade was a family coaster. It's relentless and a physical experience. But yeah, you're clearly only producing thoughts according to stereotypes.

Actual Minnesotan here.

^ Exactly a few miles down the road from me is a ski resort that operates as one of the largest water parks in the north east in the summer time... Pa is certainly not Minnesota but I would assume they have similar climates

basically, this would make it the third "floorless" coaster with Raptor and Gatekeeper all pretty much covering that niche. is there a possibility that it a new type of train? I really hope so

True. When I was at CW two weeks ago that place was PACKED. I didn't expect the huge turnout of people, but the park was crowded even on a Tuesday when most people go to work. It is a good thing that the ride ops were moving very fast and I was able to get on Leviathan in 1 hour while waiting in a 2 hour line.

^^^That wouldn't fix anything. Actually it would make matters worse. SFGA once switched one of the seats on bizarro so it would face backwards, and a lot of people got sick on it. I think it would be great for the enthusiasts (Bizarro because of the flamethrower. Imagine that thing! But not Mantis), just not the GP, which matters more to them

I would love to see sitdown trains. There are only a handful in the world, and imagine the first drop in one of those. Some people say they're even better than floorless (Ill decide myself when i ride Kumba one day).

Also, its true that CP would have 3 floorless experiences if they went through with this, but the GP wouldn't notice. Look at SFGA. They have a floorless, an inverted, and a flyer. That's 3 right there. And if the rumours of a wingrider hold true, that would make it 4. Honestly, only we enthusiasts notice these things. For the GP, as long as it's not something like Looping Disaster they will go for it. They don't seem to notice the little things we do and every coaster for them is a new experience.

SFGAm can do one better. Wing, flyer, and two inverts. If they are going the more inexpensive route which they have no reason not to, it's probably going to be a sitdown with a new name. A full station overhaul needed for floorless trains just doesn't seem practical when you can spend half of the money and time with new trains.

I don't understand why you all think a movable floor would take up the 15ft of air they have below the station before it's concrete again..
