coaster calculator

hello everyone:

I was hoping to get help with how to use the Coaster Calculator to create pump free turns. To the best of my knowledge, I create a rough segment for what i'd like my track element to be. Then, I click that element to get the details on how long it is. Take that value and divide it by two. Then, it sounds like the number it spits out at me is how far the verticies should lie apart on the element. I am wondering how you are supposed to place the control points precisely at X value apart. I've been splitting the segment, but that's just causing me a whole lot of extra frustrating work. Does anyone have any suggestions on this?
