Here's an idea:

1)We first nominate judges. Any site user is allowed to nominate someone. This will be done by simply receiving two nominations.

2)The nominee can then either decline or accept their nomination.

3)Finally a poll is put into place in which ONLY participants are allowed to vote. This would take place before the competition began.

This plan would involve putting together a list of registered participants together, but that's always how it's been done. This would also leave the idea of co-judges on the table. Meaning for example the top two would receive the judge spots. It just seems like this would be the easiest way to solve things and would leave the competitors a bit more "satisfied" with the judging process.

Just a thought...

Some people really need to relax. I've noticed that so many people try to follow a specific coaster style. That they just can't be creative anymore and keep thinking inside the box of that company they are replicating.
Where did the time go that we could build a 300ft B&M and not get bashed for un-realistic because B&M doesn't build 300ft tall coasters.

The idea of the tournament is, that people get challenged to build something unique and force people to get creative. Within survivable limits of course. It's about building a fun and thrilling coaster to your idea. Not about a fun and thrilling coaster that is limited by a companies style...

Says who? If the rules say the judge is looking for a B&M, and you build a ride that more closely resembles a CCI, then call it a B&M, how is that ok? Problem is often that people don't hit the right balance between accuracy and realism when they're trying to make a ride of a given company style, or they make a ride and say it isn't a real company style, but they don't take the time to really make their ride have a style of its own. It'll usually steal elements and shaping from a real company, which would take me out of the experience honestly. Look at the real life designers...they've all got unique features. GCI and their pops of air and twisted layouts, B&M hypers and their tall pointy hills, Gerstlauer bobsleds and their helices, flat turns, and tiny little airhills, etc.

Random turns and copied elements/shaping does not make a good original design.

You kind of have to have the discretion to tell which elements could be handled by the train/track type....

I don't budget a significant portion of my day to crying in closets so I should be fine.

this was parcially my gripe with last year, alot of "build a wooden in a GCI style" type things going on. it should be heres a box, build a coaster thats a sitdown coaster, you can only use B&M track. nothing about what style it needs to be in or anything like that, its just here you go and now create.

Provide the coaster type and the template, let the builders dictate designer style. I'm sure there can be a little bonus incorporated for those who dictate what style manufacturer they are recreating, and in the final product, do it right. Just a suggestion...

Anyways, I am quite happy with the addition of these new judges this year. Cjd does a pretty great contest, and ckmwm may be a jerk, but he writes great reviews.

You sound like you think this is detrimental to this thread. Anyway, I'm still in.

...and everything is exactly the same from when I left. Good to see. I really want to compete again, but I'm not sure if I can have my beat-to-crap PC working again on time.

Go ahead and put me down, if I can't make the deadline...well you know what to do.

And I lost my GCI creation. Damn it.

I'm content with the judges. Cjd is a wonderful judge, Coasterkidmwm tells it like it is, and Hyyyper can make some super legit templates.
