Hello, do you some of you ever design without any programs? Like on paper and such? I've done it a few times. I find it kinda difficult drawing the foot print and keeping it to scale. Sometimes in school I get bored and I feel like designing but I don't know where to start. I've thought about using graph paper before but I don't know. If you guys do draw some layouts, how do you design them? Do you use a ruler? A compass? A slide rule? Lol

If you have any cool designs you have created, would you mind if you posted them into the thread?

I can contribute to this thread, but I'm at work at the moment where I have nothing, and when I get home I am without internet lol.

Edit: Actually, I may have some VERY old designs on my old myspace page, I may pay it a visit and post them here. I'll be back momentarily.

Edit2: I actually found them on my Facebook page lol.

These are 3-6 years old and while the drawing in them is pretty decent, the actual realism and shaping of some of the elements is questionable.

These obviously are fairly detailed version, I do however always do simply line drawing layouts of coasters before I build them in NL, I don't have any of those to hand right now, but if this thread is still around in a couple of weeks when I have the internet at my house, I will definitely upload a few of them.

Btw, this is a cool thread, I am interested to see other people's styles!

2 hours or so in front of the tv for the top two, but the whole park obviously took longer, I don't remember how much time that took to be honest, it's still not finished now even though it is more complete than in that picture. I haven't done anything to it for about 4 years though, it's just on the wall in the office at my mom's house.

Usually spend about half an hour on the simple line drawings, I'm a perfectionist and all straight lines must be exactly straight and all radii must be even and accurately shaped, despite me using nothing but the pencil and the paper. So it takes time, even though it's just a simple line drawing!

I tried drawing one or two of Cedar Point's roller coasters when I was a little girl, and for one of my drawings I remember saying "I'm drawing a new coaster for them to build!" (That was ages ago, of course. I was probably about 7.) But my drawings weren't ever very good anyway.

If my coaster drawing was ever made, though, we could all look forward to riding on horses instead of seats, and having a train that emits rainbows from the back.

WOW! Those drawings are awesome, Gouldy!!!

I don't draw the coasters I do. I just start twisting track around and I guess I have the basic design in my head somewhere. I do have some drawings I made of some real coasters though. I made a drawing of the coaster at LeSourdsville Lake, a.k.a. Americana here in Ohio. Also I drew the Shooting Star that was at Coney Island near Cincinnati, Ohio. Those are the only two coaster drawings I ever made. If I can find them I'll post them here.

Thats hell awesome Gouldy, when I`m at school and have nothing to do then I draw scraps of my parks, not as detailed as yours, just the tracks, paths buildings,etc...I use different colors for the tracks, but it does even come close to your scraps.

@Gouldy:

That is an amazing idea for your Dive Machine drawing. I like the idea of extending Oblivion, but still being able to fit it in the same amount of space. I actually REALLY like the idea of eliminating the water splash as it's getting a bit cliche'd on the B&M Divers. I'm hoping to see that built with the release of NL2, Gouldy.
So, my friend came up to me the other day and asked if I wanted a frozen banana, and I said no, but I want a normal banana later, so... yea.

Yeah,I have the same opinion, but I would also be happy if you`d built all the 3 rides, when I saw the first pic I thought it was Tsar for a moment.

I just found this on my work computer, I scanned it in a while ago so I could email it to myself [lol]

It's a bit more like my simple line drawings but with some extra detail. It's what I'm currently working on, in case you're interested, although I'm slightly holding back for NL2. Note that the part that sticks up towards the top of the page is completely out of proportion and would need to be much longer in order to drop down into the valley and back up again, only I ran out of paper! [lol]

It would be cool to see some other people's stuff, though!

I really like that layout... I get easily distracted when I try to design. I will try to draw one in school today.

Wish I could design on paper, but anything involving creativity with me is totally dead. When I colored with my four year old cousin they thought my pictures were hers since they were worse....

I usually do a top side and front view, and just do the track as a line.

I've drawn a few, but most times that I try to do multiple views, I end up getting the proportions all love up. Most of my doodles are in school notes here and there...probably thrown out by now. I've never actually followed one of my drawn layouts since I use them mostly for inspiration, and not an actual blueprint.

That's about as detailed as I get. That particular ride was going to be a joint effort between a few friends and I, but it ended up going nowhere.
