Does anyone have any idea as to what the device is sitting on the storage track of Shock Wave.

It is there as a general tool for for maintenance of the track, running gear, and trains. It's basically an A-Frame on wheels. It has nothing to hold it to the track but it's own weight so it is useless any where but level track.

Greasing the rails is not correct as no grease is required for proper operation of a poly wheel on a steel running rail.

It's original purpose was to aid in servicing the brakes and drive wheels, parts of the lift that are accessible from the level track. It is so you can push it out over a brake or drive motor, unbolt it, lift it out of place with a electric hoist lift mounted to the top brace of the aframe, bring it to the work table on the storage track, service the part, and then put it back in.

I have also seen it used for other task such as holding a trailer car up while the head car is off track for fiber glass repair. I have used one to hold two segments of lift chain together to replace a worn down king pin.
