its designed to do that, if you ever go to Cedar Point, look at Wicked twisters towers or TTD's slope going up the tower.

You know that Wicked Twister had one of its towers disassembled this off season because it gets warped.

There, now I can understand that. And those coasters need replacement track every 7 to 8 years if I remember correctly.

Gazag...you do know how far 20ft is right? Thats 2 stories...thats like laying a 2 story house on its side, and it swaying from one side to the other.

I gotta call shenannigans too. Thats just a major exageration.

Having looked at the TTD many times i can say that i'm very surprised on how still it it. Its really hard to see it moved compared to most other coasters.

That's normal, if it wouldn't flex it would fall apart.

It's visible on the launch track and pullup...which is likely a reason why Kingda Ka has some "A" shaped supports instead of single poles.

Yes, it does. Looking again I'm not sure there are A shaped supports on the actual launch (and I *should* know considering I've been in the middle of the ride near the motor building), though there are some on the pullup whereas there aren't any there on TTD.

IIRC at the first block brakes on spinball whizzer there's viscous dampers (similar to "shock absorbers" on a car) joining the track supports to the maintainance staircase because the thing moves about so much. Might not need them if they thought to add a beam that wasn't inline with the others.

Nemesis has a sexy flexy. The ZeroG roll and it has a pump on the first few rows. Best viewed from in the queue line underneath.

That Texas Giant one is a lot of "wobbling." I didn't know coasters did it that much. Especially wooden ones. The only coaster i've ever noticed it on is Kingda Ka.

Aye, hard isn't the same as strong.

Steel and wood resist bending, but bend when they must.
Extremely hard things, like diamonds, resist bending even more than steel but they shatter rather than bend.

You don't want supports made of diamond.

So the next time you hear someone declaring themselves "hard" when they mean strong you can safely assume they'll go to pieces if you stress them enough.
Be sure you're not looking in a mirror before you start pointing fingers.
