us coasters fans overuse acrynoms for naming coasters and such?
Yes it has a practical use, but I think at times we are worse than the Army when it comes down to it.

I donno about you guys, but there have been times when reading on these forums and people refer to a coaster acrynom I've never seen before, and I have to sit there for a moment and try to figure out what the hell you are talking about.

The coaster community would be in shambles if parks all named their coasters with a single word and never reused the name for anything. [:p]

I some cases I see acronyms as a great help to coaster enthusiasts especially when reffering to a Six Flags park. It helps me out because, lets face it, I'm lazy. It's much easier typing SFMM than Six Flags Magic Mountain. Acronyms are best used to serperate things that have similar names, like the Batman inverts or Superman Ride of Steel coasters.

To me its more of an issue for the lesser known rides that may get mention from time to time, which I for some reason can't think of what ride they are really talking about.

case in point last year, some people were talking about markings on the ground near the Cedar Creek Mine Ride, but never said "Cedar Creek Mine Ride" in the post directly. they used just CCMR. I couldn't place a name with the acryonm.

It has its good uses (long names)

I guess I brought this up becuase I'm taking a communications class and they had a section of text on the internet an how emoticons and acyromns are misintpretted, and got me thinking about how we use it...

man I get bored in class.

I'm for them, as long as everyone knows what you're talking about. I'm way too lazy to type out "Six Flags Magic Mountain", "Superman: Ride of Steel", and "Millennium Force" every single time that I talk about them. I'd much rather use SFMM, S:ROS, and MF, because everyone knows what they are anyway.

I think the abbriviations to coasters here can't go near how bad it often gets with chat slang on AIM. "omg suuuuuupp i jg teh pwning cmp lolz!11", I would say, is far worst than "the turn before the mcbr has a lot of pumping".

IMO the acronyms are fine. (Hence me using one at the beginning of this post) But for those lesser known coasters and parks, just ask what the acronym is, it's just when you use an acronym for literally every word in your post/whatever that gets really confusing.
