Ever want to outsource development of a marquee attraction to someone who basically will do all the hard work for free?

I can make a Chinese knockoff coaster that is very rough and has really horrible trackwork.

I feel like the layout doesn't really count as the "hard work" in designing, especially in this case where it would be just ideas and not trackwork and supporting that are ready for manufacturing.

Agreed with DCS there - there's a whole lot more that goes into designing than just layout ideas and guessed supportwork.

^^Absolutely true that layout is a small part of the design process. Though I'd think coasters using FVD would be closer to the real thing (more than Arrow had in 70s and 80s LOL). I hope the park isn't looking to go with Zamperla for this coaster because I've heard nothing good about Thunderbolt!

Agreed - maybe Zierer or Maurer S??hne would be far better lower cost picks in my opinion.

Thunderbolt should be better than a Chinese knockoff coaster.

Yeah ultimately I think they will go with the lowest cost option since it's a start-up park. Which of those companies that is, I do not know. I'm guessing not Intamin, though, haha.

A defunct knock-off "Thunderbolt" but it actually had a good ride music! :D

Who all is participating? I've got my layout and 2/5 of the support work done.

I am, but is still a tad confused with the rules. Does it have to be exclusively on the gray building thing or can some track pass inside the area of interest?

inside yes, outside no. I'm assuming you get bonus points for a clean inside as well.

It's not going to be the prettiest Roller Coaster.

Removed visuals from this post unofficially because officials threatened to take my fun away.

So, with the deadline only two days away, how are people doing with this? I'm sure we'd all love to see some of the designs created with this wacky and very restrictive template. :P

Here's my finished coaster, not the best but just a generally fun build.

Anyone else got theirs to share? :)

^ I didn't participate, but I had a very similar idea. The TC style of racing works well with this template
What are these for?

Well, here is an old version of my entry. Layout is the same, but now it has much better trackwork and fits perfectly on top of the building:

Supporting it is a pain in the ass...

LOL, supporting is my favorite part...I find it rather therapeutic to be honest.

^I'm super impatient so I hate it too! But I got a lot better at it, so it's not as bad
For me (from best to worst) it's:
1.Trackwork
2.3ds
3.Supporting
It's been a long time

Ditto. I would not wish it upon anyone. Even worse is when people almost never give helpful tips beyond looking at pictures (like circling a questionable section, for example.) Looking at pictures might not be the one size fits all approach because of differing placements of elements relative to track below it. I feel like it's an Achille's Heel.
