I really fell in love with the S100... too bad I can nowhere near afford it. XD I think I might eventually get the S90 instead, simply because it's cheaper and doesn't seem to sacrifice much of what I want from the S100... I'm still looking into point-and-shoots with long shutter speeds though. Mine had 4 seconds, I think, but I want at least that, if not more. I want to get something small to hold me over until I can afford better cameras, but it's difficult searching for specific shutter speeds.

IMO, your money is best spend on a Canon point-n-shoot.

It'll cost Simba more though. But you CAN have a DLSR in your pocket.

Its the Canon G series. G9-G12. If you do enough reading, you'll find there were 2 in that series that stuck out as the top performers. Cant remember which ones. But they'll set ya back anywhere from 350-500 depending on model and used/new status.

The S is the same thing in a smaller body with a faster lens. Only thing the Gs have on the Ss are the viewfinder (crappy off center zooming) and a direct exposure comp dial (though both control rings on the S series are customizable). Kinda feel like im paraphrasing Ken Rockwell here which I hate cause he's a tool, but it's true. You do get the flipout LCD and the better grip on the G series though.

And the ones you're referring to are the G11 and G12, both with the same 10mp CCD that the S90 and S95 have (S100 has a 12mp (backlit?) CMOS). The G11 only have one control ring, while the G12 has the rear as well as a front jog similar to what an SLR has.

That said, if I were to buy a new compact, it would be a Fuji X10. Or X100 if I'm dreaming. Or a Leica M9 with a Summilux 35mm F1.4 aspherical if I'm REALLY dreaming. Though that would be rather pointless for coaster pictures, seeing as it has no autofocus.

How about a 1D-X or 1D MKIV for coaster shooting? 70-200 F2.8 ISII on a nice Gitzo tripod and some well placed strobes.....effing insane.

If only I had that much to drop on a camera. :\ I'll keep that in mind though when I become rich. Rather, when I stop having to pay for college.

I will say that the S90 is SLOW which isn't ideal for coaster pictures. It will work, but you have to learn it. It shoots under 1fps, autofocus is slow, and there is significant shutter lag. It can be done, but it's not ideal.

On the other hand, it is excellent for low light which is a good starting point for getting into photography as I said earlier.

Sure. Strobes for casual coaster shooting, LOL. While were at it, why don't we get a few of those mounted around the coaster for some wicked cool background blur shots?

Nah, but that's the most recent model.
The series started with the SX100IS, and then about every year Canon released an update (110, 120, 130 and 150). Either camera in that series is good, but the more recent, the better.

I'm starting to lean towards something in the ELPH/IXUS series since its in my budget and has what I'm looking for. But then again, I probably won't buy one until March, so maybe my budget will have changed or their prices will have
