Well, it seems that some of you on the site know alot about computers. I was just wondering what firewalls and antiviruses you guys have. I have a feeling that I may have a virus on my computer but I am not sure. I dont want bs answers like norton, I know its crap. I have tried it and know its crap. So, what do you use/ what do you like?

I don't go to gay porn sites so I am unfamiliar with the virus you're battling. Sorry :(

I've used a few different AntiVirus/AntiSpyware software..
1. Norton
2. McAfee
3. AVG
4. Avast
5. PC Tools
6. ESET (NOD32)
7. Trend Micro
8. Kaspersky
9. SpyBot Search & Destroy

Category A: (1,2,3,4)
- Never catches anything throughout your entire subscription
- Crap interface
- Heavy on system resources/slows down everything else

Category B: (6,7,8,9)
- Catches everything throughout your entire subscription
- Good/Simple/Standard interface
- Tons of false positives
- Medium on system resources/can slow things down
- System Tray Pop-ups that bug you much more often than Vista's User Account Control

Category C: (5)
- Catches everything throughout your entire subscription
- Good/Simple/Standard interface
- Minimal false positives
- Light on system resources, no noticeable performance impact
- Although there is occasional pop-ups, they are only what is absolutely necessary.
- Additional features such as "Game Mode"

Essentially, I would highly recommend PC Tools Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus (2010 Version). All the other AntiVirus software I've used fell into one of two "bad" categories, but this one did not. Highly exceeded my expectations and is well worth the $40. Just trying it out wouldn't be a bad idea. They have a trial, and if you do decide to purchase there is also a 30 day money back guarantee. PC Tools support has been helpful and nice in the past as well. When switching to Windows 7 the software I had a subscription for was incompatible. They were able to switch me to a newer version that was compatible free of charge.

If you can not afford such though, then I would suggest that if you could identify problem files on your own then you could upload it to: http://www.virustotal.com/

I'm using Avast antivirus and running Firefox with Adblock Plus and Noscript, and I run CCleaner and Adaware about once every few months.

The introduction of one or more viri into a computer system requires human intervention. In short, stop watching porn and pirating music you dirty dirty whore.

^That's why you should go to YouTube and search the song. I'm sure many videos include lyrics in the description!

I've had my computer for two years this coming Christmas and I have never had any virus protection programs on it. I just have the basic scan that Vista, and now 7, use. Works well, I have never had any virus problems. I'm basically against virus protection programs because anytime I see anyone with one on their computer, it always seems to do more harm then good, lol. Always randomly starting up, slowing the computer down ridiculously. But yeah, I don't use any programs, lol.

Ive been using AVG for 2 years now, I have nothing on my comp. When I had mcafee though, it was terrible! slowed downs SO MUCH, and it couldnt do crap against the virus that forced me to wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows.

I used to have an actually paid for copy of Mcafee on my home PC and about two years ago I had a ridiculous virus that chenged the settings of the computer so much that some changes are irreversable to this day. Such as issues with screensaver, which cannot be changed from what is now an error message that makes no sense. But the actual ability to change the screensaver and the dektop picture has been removed by the virus somehow. So for my mind Mcafee is crap, especially being as it was a pukka paid for copy. I downloaded AVG for free, which managed to get rid of the virus (although still not solving the problem above) and has kept the computer virus free since then.

I also use adaware SE something or other and spybot search and destroy, to keep all that kind of crap under control.

I just got rid of AVG and suddenly my laptop became a hell-a-lot faster. Since I installed the free 9.0 update, it did put without reason the active window on inactive. Very annoying.
Also personally what I think was very pathetic from AVG, is that it still came up with tips on how "good" AVG is when your uninstalling the program. [lol]

AVG never caught any viruses or threads other than programs where I knew from that it wasn't a thread. I got currently only Spybot S&D left. And I have no problems with that program.

Maybe i'll get sometime some other program. But not now. [:)]

I think that it#s probably just the luck of the draw. Some programs will catch some stuff and some will catch other stuff. That would explain peoples differing accounts of the same softwares. Maybe some stuff would just never be caught, whatever antivirus package you were using

Thanks I aim to please with my smartass comments. I don't see how avoiding gay porn sites makes me uncomfortable with my sexuality but sure. Are you uncomfortable with being a chubbo?

You know what I said, and I have no idea where you get that Im a chubbo from.

Also, aww, the grammar police is back again. I will use commas where ever I want. Your comments about this mean nothing other than pointing out the obvious.
