Damn, I didn't realize Europe was paying THAT much. That's quite crazy. We have about $4.00 to $4.30 here; southeast Michigan. Michigan sucks; our economy is in a recession here, and a while back our state government literally quote "Shut Down". At least we pay half as much as Europe.

Yeah, i remember when the gov shut down for a day here. pretty sad.
and you live in SE michigan? where at? cause i do too.

You have to also realize that a direct conversion of the currency from two greatly different economies will also make it seem a bit lopsided. Of course the prices over here are going to be way cheaper as we (we being USA and Canada) drill a lot of our oil.

Here just north of Toronto it is around $1.34/liter.

What was also not pointed out; was that on average we earn more than you do as well, so it stands to reason we'd pay more for things, bit with most stuff (especially fuel) it's nothing like directly proportional

Yeah, I think here in Toronto it would be something like $5.20 a gallon.

Washington Township / Shelby Township, Macomb County.

And yes, Europeans earn more generally, so basically they could come here and spend less for something they'd get in their country. There used to be a time where it was flip-flopped, and the US had a higher dollar value that Europe. I even heard that the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US dollar now.

Yea with gas being an average of 4 dollars a gallon and with half the country make 10 dollars or less an hour it pretty much screwed us. I remember back in like 2000 my dad worked your standard 5 dasy a week 8 hours a day making some $50/hour and we had money to spare. Now my mom has 2 jobs my dad is working all the overtime he can get and were making it but with little margin for error.

The economy frekin sucks.

I'ts probably more to do with the fact that they're a pile of American sh*te and we have no need for this kind of vehicle in Europe and the UK either, before you even get to the fact that it would cost us like $2 for every mile we travelled! [lol]

i sincerly doubt this. your dad is making 120K a year, and he has to work overtime, and you're scraping by? GTFO. he had to lose his job, or he was completely bullspitting you on how much he made.

you are living WAY past your needs if that is true.

You also have to include other factors like cost of housing. You dont know how much his family pays on something like a mortgage, or maybe they recently bought a new vehicle that they're paying off. So just because his dad might make more then most, it doesn't mean that they aren't struggling to keep their standard of living.[;)]

Hopefully B&M doesnt have more to add.

cost of living...jesus christ. that's living in luxury. i feel real sorry for him and his lower upper class family. tough spit. don't have a 600K house, don't have a new hummer in the drive way, don't spend thousands of dollars on parties once a month, don't spend 100 dollars a day driving around town...it isn't hard.

these are just generalizations of course, i have no idea what his dad makes, nor should i care/matter. just saying if someone is making 50 USD an hour and has it full time, they don't get to complain about money.
