So I heard there's such a thing now as Gel Cooling for your computer. Is this real? If it is, where can I get it?

^lol

I dunno the next time I make a computer I wanna try and get it really quiet, so I'm thinkin maximum of 2 fans with some type of alternate cpu/gpu cooling. the reason for gel cooling is that I heard you don't have to replace or refill anything (like water or coolant).

If you want it silent just use a water cooling system for the whole thing.

i have a water cooled system, i only have to fill it about every 3 months when the beeper tells me too. keeps my comp very cool and is totally scilent. i have braided lines all round so its hard for me to get a leak and i have it leading to all my hard drives, my processors and a network aroung the cards and under the mother board. i do also have a fan on top of the cpu box for the summer when it get really hot. the best thing if you want one is to find a box with all the equipment already inside it and build on it. mine cost me $300.

anyway if you want liquid cooling this is a great system start and look round this site to find more bits, this is where i got mine from

At the moment, liquid cooled processors aren't really practical - Fans work fine unless you're specifically lookinig for a silent system. I believe ASUS makes several very high quality liquid-cooled systems, but I have my doubts about the integrity of the liquid resiviors - I'll stick with fans until I move to a quad-core processor. My fan-cooled dual core 3 GHZ works fine for now :)

*EDIT*

Gel cooling isn't something I've heard of... the only gel I know of that has any sort of cooling capacity is that gel between the processor and heatsink. I can't imagine a gel being useful for cooling the entire processor simply because you'd need something that circulates (like water or oil)... Oil would actually be better because it doesn't conduct electricity, but I don't think anyone's using oil-based coolant....yet.

I'm really skeptical about water cooling because of the margin of error

Smer - it really depends on what you're looking for - there's nothing a fan-cooled processor can't do that a liquid-cooled one can. I don't trust liquid cooled. Spend a little money upgrading to quiter fans and save yourself the worry of having a liquid system fail. Personally, even if you're looking for a quiet system, I think you won't notice the fan noise - I miss is when it's gone :)

its true that the water cooling meathod does nothing more than the fan method does but really its just for show. thats all mine really is is just a sho piece of my room thats why ive got unccery stuff in it like lights and a window in it. water cooling is really just a show off type thing. i only got it cu i likes the case it come in and it was allready fitted. think it might be time for a new case thought as mine is now 2 years old

Careful ECG... lol - I have one of those fancy, windowed, LED'd cases too, and I happen to like it - no water cooling, but all the fans are lit up like christmas day... not a toy!!

Water cooling forget that. I know of a way cool and unique way to cool your PC. Cooking Oil. This is no joke, you can actually do this.

All you need is a water tight case, 8 gallons of cooking oil, and a few other modifications and you are good to go. Check it out.

Forget the oil immersion - get a prometeia coolant system - they're like 800 bucks, but hey - if you can overclock a processor to a stable 4.1 GHZ....
