If you view it that way, what's to say a ring cannot be a weapon? A mini form of brass knuckles if you ask me. Sure an extreme view, but your view of my city is no different that the proposed view I just set on that ring.

The world isnt trying to get rid of God. Id love to hear your justification for that. If anything the people who believe in God have been trying to force their beliefs on others for years. The world, as you put it, has merely responded by making appropriations for both the religious and non-religious among us.

so what you are saying if that girl lived here and made the same complaint she is making now, she would be worthless of her comments and thus not need to be heard about her ring?

e-man - if you are that blind to state something like "The world isnt trying to get rid of God. Id love to hear your justification for that", then I haven't the time nor the inclination to explain it to you. Seriously man, I was not arguing with you -- but you are seeking to drag me into a discussion about something that you and I have NO COMMON GROUND to talk about. Honestly man, go bark up another tree -- it ain't gonna work here. Oscar and I are merely punning one another while chatting on IM ... get over it.

However, if you need facts, then how about 2,110,000 of them?

That is all I am going to say on this, it is obvious that I am talking to a closed mind, and again, WWS forums prove to be a hostile breeding ground for anything that is not "socially correct". You have earned your title today man, geesh.

My bottom line intention here was to support this young lady's afirmation of her faith and her symbol to wear it -- period.

I dont know...basically every major civilization tried to eradicate the Christian God. Romans. Egyptians. The only one that didnt was obviously the Jews.

Which is strange because I am fairly certain that Jews arent known for being very...outgoing when it comes to their faith. They have always seemed very private. Honestly, I dont see any of the Jews right NOW trying to convert the Muslims...just trying to hold their land.

Theres alot of issues in that one statement but if you take a religious view of Ancient History and then After Christ history - the worlds larger empires have always fought the battle. Today is no different. In China you are arrested and sometimes killed for being a christian. In the Middle East theres no one group but the threat is there for capture and possible death. Most of your smaller, less powerful countries take a very open stance on these issues.

I dont know if Id say eradicate so much as Id say control beyond reason.

But thats not the topic here...its about a virginity ring.

They're just jealous because they didn't get a ring when they were teenagers.

I was talking to someone on IM about this when the story came out a few days ago, and what the jist of our conclusion is this: - she will loose her virginity eventually, before marriage, but she will just take the ring off while she does it, or something, so she ends up lying to herself in the end because the rings states she is pure, however, she knows she isn't and the ring is just a symbol so she can lie to herself.

Or, such as in a recent Family Guy episode, she wont have vaginal sex so she can stay pure, however she will explore in other ways (in the episode case, the ear) of her sexual intuition and will be just as bad as a girl who lost her virginity vaginally, however she will lie to herself, and the fact that it wasn't vaginal sex, it is okay to do anything with another man, or women.

Personally virginity or purity rings are stupid. You don't need a ring to show your faith. You don't need a ring to show your intent to be pure. You don't need a ring to show or represent anything. You only need a ring to show to others what your intent is. Your actions should do that, not material objects.

^You just dont get it.

Humans DO need things to remind them. The bible is covered in ways that God told the people to make things to remind them of God. We are absent minded creatures.

You also have a pretty pessimistic view on people. To be honest, I dont think Id want to be your friend. You obviously wouldnt have much faith in anything I do and therefore wouldnt trust me or anything I say.

Lol.

I have reminders of God around me, I wear my cross...for ME. The ring in my opinion is a small reminder for I, but it is also meant to be one for everyone else to see. You shouldn't need a ring to have as a reminder. The cross she has on around her neck should do the trick.

I dont have a pessimistic view, I am just being honest here. I trust and love my friends to death, but in a population whole, i don't trust them at all. People in this generation are horrible people. I've seen and know girls who claim to be virgins, claim to be pure Christians, they are not. They are just lying to themselves so they feel better about their not so good choices. Maybe my friends and people i know are worse people than your friends and acquaintances. Probably, i wouldn't doubt it. All I am saying here is while there are alot of pure Christian women, and men, there are also a good portion of Christians who are claiming to pure, however they are not, and only use Purity rings and what not to lie to themselves and others that their actions are justified.

Doesn't matter really. I find arguing alone to be horribly stupid, let alone with people on an internet board. My thoughts, my words, my actions. I'm sticking to them and won't defend them whatsoever, there is no point to waste my or anyone else's life on them.

If she feels guilty she can easily stop.

I know plenty of Morman people who have done just fine without rings. It takes dedication not a ring to stay pure. It speaks a lot about a persons character. Besides, she can still wear it when she's at school. Its not like she really has to worry about facing much sexual temptation at school.

Well Ragan...you are preaching to the choir. Most everyone knows that theres alot of pure and alot of unpure people and christians alike out there. But you dont know her and I dont think its right to assume that shell just fail in her quest. That was my point.

Also, you guys just still dont get it. You guys that thick?

Its not like she needs it to keep her purity. So you guys saying "You dont need a ring you just need dedication" thats an ignorant statement.

Everyones different. Some people need different reminders. I forget things easily because I tend to think very rapidly. ADD? Maybe. But the more physical reminders I have the better. Of course I wouldnt "need" a ring to remember I need to stay pure, but the ring signifies a belief. Ive got a ring with a cross in it and alot of people never ask what it means. It doesnt just mean a cross but thats something I hold to myself when Im wearing it.

And those of you who say the ring isnt needed - dont buy your future wife an engagement ring or a wedding ring. Techincally, you dont need it - you have dedication.

^ Not neccessarily. Religion is a very pure and beautiful thing, and when it works for you it's great. Unfortunately I really do not feel it. I don't feel the connection to God. I believed it because I felt like that's what I had to do to get to heaven... and thats what I thought was the purpose of religion. That's not what religion should be about. It's so much more. It's about connecting with something that is beyond you. One day i'll probably be religious again when I can get that connection but for now it doesn't work for me. Lets pray I don't die in my sleep shall we.[;)]
