i know everyone is either saying it's going on now, going to happen soon, or is not even a chance, but i live in the san fernando valley just north of LA in north hollywood, and it was 85 degrees ouside at 11:05 pm. during the day yesterday, it got as high as 112 in woodland hills, and 106 where i am.
i think global warming is now, as it has been above 100 for he past few weeks with no letting up
in england, they're having record temps that can melt the asphalt

is it hot where you are?

do you think there is global warming?

well yeah, i live in the south of england- and its gotten to the stage where all the roads are being re-surfaced. There are some pictures of guys who walked on the tarmac and the road came up with thier feet.

This is the hottest its ever gotten to in england. upto 38' celcius- im not sure what that is in farenheit(?).

And yeah, i agree with you dude, global warming is now- and i do everything in my power to look after the world i live in- do you?

Ummmmm .... it is also the middle of July, which is oddly enough known in some circles of those less observant as something called, "summer". Talk to me about 100 degress in California in January and I might be more inclined to take time out of my day to notice. By the way, here in Alabama it was 108 yesterday - quit complaining.

As time goes on, average temperatures have increased. To Democrats, it's global warming, to Republicans, it's a continuous cycle, and that's never going to change, no matter how much scientists prove over and over again that we are in fact experiencing the results of global warming at an unnatural extreme.

I was in morongo yesterday or 2 days ago and it was a cool 119 degrees, that's like 30 min ahead from thundermat, I passed through there too and it was hellish! San fernando valley is about 45 min from me and that is bad all year round though and I bet you got the muggy crap there with the mountains around and stuff.

Here in Colorado it has been hot too, but i never see it since i typically sleep during the day, and then wake up during the night. But we just moved again to this crappy house that has no A/C only this damn "Swamp Cooler" that is so crappy and worthless. but lately like the past few days it has not been to hot, but a few weeks ago it was over a hundred degrees which can be hot for Littleton, but oh well we are all going to die someday, and global warming could be the cause but i doubt that it will be soon, but i have no idea just like everyone else.

The weather your experiencing is not because of global warming do to 0zone floating away, it just happens to be hotter this year then last year. There is nothing you can do that will make that big of a difference in one year. Especially when we're improving our pollution output.

we should make tons upon tons of ice and dump it all in the artic ocean again and again to replenish the melting polar ice caps

Global warming is entirely different from the Ozone layer's decomposition, that was an entirely different dilemma that has been taken care of to some extent.

I disagree. We dont have accurate enough records thousands and thousands of years ago to say its global warming. So, when they say the average temperature is rising, they are correct.

When they say they know why, they are wrong. Its a complete guess. They dont know if its from a natural cycle or a sudden shift.

The fact is, we dont have enough accurate data back far enough to determine if its a quick phenomena or something that was due.

Quite frankly, I think we were due. Infact, this sort of thing has happened a few times over the last thousand years or so. Big hurricanes? Nothing new. We just havent seen any in centuries...so its all of a sudden a huge suprise. Warming trends? Same. That we have proof of but beyond that we have theories which dont count.

It would be quite ironic if we found some ways to reverse the trend and ended up altering a natural pattern.

Otherwise, as TCon said, its JULY. Shoot, in Ohio the last 2-4 years have been a little unusual but this year have been extremely typical. We had a nice winter - cold. We had a great spring, nice temps. We also are now getting the heat in July/August. We have gotten more rain than normal, alot more rain. But, we had been in a drought for the last 5-8 years so nature is just replenishing itself.

True, true. That's why global warming is such a debated issue. There's concrete way to prove it is or isn't occuring. However, it is known that we have caused increased buildup of greenhoused gases, and it's also widely accepted smong scientists that in recent years global temperatures have increased in part due to this increased buildup of greenhouse gases caused by us. This is also why the issue of global warming has become such a party lines issue. It's something that absolutely cannot be proven either way at this point. A good description of this whole scientific uncertainty dilemma can be found here--> http://yosemite.epa.gov/oar/globalwarmi ... nties.html
And another source can be found here--> http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/globalwarming.html

Not to sound like a sensationalist, but I recently saw a documentary (possibly nova) on "global dimming" which I had never heard about before. Apparently the rate of global warming would be a lot faster if it weren't for the fact that many pollutants in the air are blocking a percentage of the sunlight in many parts of the globe, particularly from countries that have poor environmental policies on emmissions control. At the same time, isn't this year "el nino" or "el nina" or something like that? I remember one year they blamed EVERYTHING on el nino....

Exactly wersigobra ... meteorologists have been seeking ways to explain the weather for forever. It is summer folks, I mean, come on. Here is an example. You guys know that I travel a lot for work, and I was in Boise, Idaho last December and it was in the 20s every morning with an average of 30 by mid-day. Well, then I went to Los Angeles, California (met Slap there) later that month and it was in the 50s and 60s. Now, look at the latitudes of those two areas and remember the month again:

Los Angeles: Lat: 34n03, Long: 118w15
Boise: Lat: 43n37, Long: 116w12
(Source: http://stutzfamily.com/mrstutz/LatLong/findlatlong3.htm)

It is not too hard to figure out the reason behind the temperature changes.

Here in southern Alabama we do not get snow in the winter, but that is not because of global warming, it is because it does not get cold enough to snow here. If it snows here, it is a fluke ... not global warming. Again, call me when Seattle, Washington is experiencing an average of 90 degrees in February and I might notice the temperature change and seek to find an explanation as well.

How about this then.

England, and you all know what english is weather is like, if for no other reason than gouldy's complaints. And yet, we've been in the 30's for such a long time it's untrue. There was a torrential downpour yesterday, and the temperature was still at 29 degrees. Now that ain't natural.

Mind you, global warming is a bit silly. I just like a good debate, or at least to see TC get all puffy. He's so cute when he's demeaning people.

Awww, isn't that cute.

yes it is true, the world is hot right now, so we feel the need to bitch about it on websites for some reason....i know how to fix this, put GIANT ice cubes in the ocean every year or so to cool it down, and then we can take some of that melted water and get a high pressured hose, and then release that excess water into space, and that momentum should carry us back a couple hundred miles, and then we will once again be cooler....

The earth goes through trends in terms of climate, that's why some years it's warmer and some years it's colder. It's like everytime a temperature record is broken, GLOBAL WARMING!

Maybe it is happening, but I won't believe it until there is more solid proof.

Global warming isn't something that will happen suddenly. It happens very gradually, like fractions of a degree over decades. It probably won't happen like the movie "The Day After Tommorrow," where one day it's normal and then the next day there is all kinds of crazy weather which leads to the next ice age. There may be a breaking point that we might be getting close to but I doubt it will be anywhere near as drastic as in the movie. So it is happening today and it has probably been happening since the last ice age if the scientists are right about it. I really don't think there is anything that we could do to stop it without making our lives miserable by giving up a lot of things that we need. And like Real said, it may be a natural cycle, a lot of scientists think that the last ice age may have just been the latest in a continuous cycle of them, and we may be due for another one. Trying to prevent it could end up causeing even more problems. The whole country is going through a major heat wave right now, it's nothing out of the ordinary.
