okay this may seem like a weird question. But I was looking on RCDB at old intamin loopers and Shwarzkopfs. Now I'm wondering what ever happened to headlights on coaster trains?

I mean you know those row LEDs on Audis, why not stick those on the Zero car of B&M Hypers, that would be bad ass!

Some of the GCIs have headlights (at least Kentucky Rumbler) but they aren't generally used. Hollywood Dream has a ton of lights too.

In the square tubing there are LED headlights. When I was there in 07 they had them on for a couple rides during ERT, but one of them was having issues so they shut them off. From what I was told it's like an $8 battery per light and they have to crawl under the train to turn them on/off so that's why they aren't used often.

Ah I see, so it's running costs that killed headlights?

The LED rows on modern German cars that he was talking about definitely do not help you to see. They simply alert other drivers that there is a twat coming.

Edit: Pic related.

What's so dumb is that they can easilly use rechargable batteries, miniature solar panels (or miniature wind generator,) and LEDs to power these things. Don't they have garden lighting that work pretty much the same way?[:)]

What would it take to mount that on a coaster? An hour to bolt it on?

For the two or three hours that they may be on in a given evening, the daylight charge should be more than adiquate for illiminating a handfull of LEDs. replacing a set of AA rechargables every season shouldn't be that big of a deal.

All the vibrations takes a toll on that stuff. That's why the old NAD trains headlights had issues (though those were run off a deep cycle battery).

You sound like a liberal politician. Everything is easy and involves going green or whatever. Yappity yap yap but at the end of the day everyone knows you don't know a damn about what you're talking about.
