Please look at this, the government is trying to illegalize ALL consumer fireworks. If you have ever enjoyed a fountain, or sparkler, then you should join, it's free, and every single person will help stop this. Help preserve fireworks in America: Join the Fireworks Alliance

BOO! Fireworks are awesome! I joined that petition site you listed, I'm GerstlCrazy223 on that site.

I think what that alliance is doing is great! I mean, why would fireworks be illegalized everywhere? So they're dangerous, get a helmet!

Ya lol.. Its crazy when you look at the facts. Kids are 4 times more likely to get injured by a pen/pencil than fireworks according to statistics, and 50 times more on a bike. Why not make bikes or pens illegal?

Yeah seriously, the only reason that the government is trying to make them illegal is because people love them!

Because 500 times more kids use bikes and writing utensils than fireworks. Pens and pencils are pretty much completely necessary for kids, and bikes can be completely necessary for some kids, and are generally safe if they aren't use recklessly.

Bikes are fun and exercise, pens/pencils are for learning and other things which include fun... fireworks are for visual pleasure... and what else? The way I see it, bikes and pens/pencils are acceptable risks, and there's no reason for people shooting off their own fireworks. I've noticed that MANY parents are horrible, and let their children do what they want...so if these parents aren't going to regulate it, who is?

Anyways point is, those statistic comparisons are completely useless. I think it's stupid to compare something like fireworks to pens and pencils, which are used hundreds of times as much, and are a necessity. Come on, think before you speak.

Edit-Just read Gerst lover's last post... dude, you also need to abide by the last pre-edit sentence I wrote.

A couple of my friends and I get about $800 worth each spring on the way back from a Six Flags trip then head back to Missouri from Illinois in late June to shoot them off at a remote farm owned by one of their grandparents. From experience, the small bottle rockets and hand-held fireworks are much more dangerous than the large-scale artillery shells and such. We treat the larger with more respect. None of us have ever been injured or even had a close call with the big ones.

All our burns and singes come from the small bottle rockets and such. We mess around with those more and are in closer contact with them.

You can't ban the small ones and keep the big ones, but I think only certain age groups treat them improper. After you're 25, you use them as directed. It only takes one to ruin it for all...

Yeah. Definately don't close your hand around one that may explode...that's definately a bad move lol. It's the difference between a small burn and a missing hand.

Alright now I have to take dcs's post into consideration. Parents that leave their kids off alone with explosives are not right in the head, but when I am out using fountains, punks, and bottle rockets I have an adult always right by me...but I'm only 13, and I assume the parents that let their kids off alone are letting like 15, 16, and 17 year old kids.

Also, dcs, I'm not making a huge point out of this but it Gerstl CRAZY, not lover...lol, I still knew you were talking to me though becuase my post was pretty thoughtless [lol].

ok, my bad GerstlCrazy. Clicked the reply to topic link instead of quick replying, and didn't have the names for reference.

As far as the fireworks go, consider yourself lucky to have parents that care enough to go out with you, as many people don't have that. I don't think medium sized street fireworks are really needed, but smaller ones with adult supervision are fine. I enjoy fireworks, just don't think the law proposal is baseless.

I find personal fireworks to be: annoying, expensive, smelly, smokey, dirty (ash) and boring. Big ones.....not so much

Pfft, I honestly couldnt care less either way. Doesn't bother me if they are banned or not. They are just fireworks at the end of the day. Lets let all the arseholes with nothing better to do battle this one out, I have better ways to spend my time then squabbling over fireworks

I think the reason that most of you do not think fireworks are that great
I find personal fireworks to be: annoying, expensive, smelly, smokey, dirty (ash) and boring. Big ones.....not so much

is because you haven't ever seen BIG consumer fireworks. Most people's displays over at http://www.pyrouniverse.com have better displays than ANY professional display I have seen.
This is just a finale... http://www.pyroreview.com/gallery/data/505/1601July_4TH_2006_Finale.wmv

You must not have a life either Edge if you come in here mostly to put everyone down. Oh, and by adding your opinion to the debate, you're squabbling over fireworks too. Way to try to make yourself look better than others, while only making yourself look more like an "arsehole" than the rest of us.

Next time watch your language and what you say, and know to whom you're speaking.

oh sorry, I don't mind, haha I don't know why even said that...

You have an excellent point that supports your opinion, dcs. I will always love fireworks. They'll always amaze me when I see them, and the only thing I think should be done about the issue is to find some way to make parents be near a child when the child is setting them off. I can't imagine how they would do that though...

But even if they do illegalize them, what's that gonna do anyway? Fireworks are already illegal in some states, but do you see that the law prevents those states from setting them off? No. It's not possible to stop people from using fireworks, even enforcing law...

Whatever happened to "If Timmy was dumb enough to hold the firework while it blew up then he is an idiot and we shouldn't feel sorry for him."?

Also Gerst the government is not trying to make things that are fun illegal, that would be stupid. kids are just dumber these days I guess. If that was true then making love out of marriage would be illegal and frowned upon. Thankfully no institutions have ever tried to do that.[r]
