Hi all

I have started an Intamin impulse coaster. I was going to make the launch a heartline roll, instead of a straight segment. I believe that with curved LIMs I could pull it off realistically. Of course, as you all know, LIMs can have two steel rails where a steel rail from the car goes in between. If I think curved one would do the trick. Of course, I would also do 3d modeling to pull it off [;)]

So, realistic or not?

I dont think intamin would do that (but what do i know?). But a heartline roll is such an dreadful way to start a coaster IMO.

I think it would be fun. Being launched upsideown, then going up high into the air, then coming back down again backwards and going though a tight roll, then going up and facing the ground high in the air, then repeating.

How is not realistic?

I am not trying to start an argument, I just want more information from designers who are better than me.

I think it might be possible with modified but existing technology as long as the launched occurs where the rotation is constant. Curved LIMs...curved fins...maybe? Haven't thought it through although I've tossed the concept around before, but I wouldn't blindly say it can't be done.

yes the rotation will be constant (Elementary [;)])

By The way, in-case is was not clarified enough, it will be a Shuttle like Possessed at Dorney, but with a heart-line roll launch and no heart-line roll towers.

It could be possible. Probably hard as hell to manufacture as the fins and openings would have to line up exactly on every place in the roll, but it is possible.

what if there were 1 inch fins (one inch long) on the top of the train and they could bend at the connection between the fin and train?

Being a manufacturing analyst, I agree with this. The fins would be very pricey and very hard to draw up, make, and model.

I say scrap the idea. Wicked twister made me sick to my stomach withou the hearline roll. Two twisting towers was too much. Impulse coasters are awesome in their simplicity. That's why I like v2 at SFGA.

I preferred Wicked Twister to the other two impulses I've been on by far. I feel like most people do.

IF that made you sick then how are you a coaster enthusiast? Yeah wicked twister is great and has a much better launch than the other impulse coasters.

I consider V2 to be one of the most boring coasters I've been on, I liked WT quite a bit though.

Steel Venom's not bad, I think Wicked Twister would be more fun to rotate going backwards away from the ground though.

yes the rotation will be constant (Elementary )

You realize when you make a roll, there are lead-ins and lead-outs to prevent pumpy beginnings and ends? This means that the middle section that excludes these leads would be constant, and you would have to decide exactly which parts of your "Elementary" roll (Garsh who uses Elementary to make rolls these days... lol) are constant in rotation.

^You live in MN?

I've been on Wicked Twister once and Steel Venom multiple times (Home park). I actually liked them both the same amount, they both have their ups and downs. But I don't think this would be realistic.

Yeah, about a half hour from Valleyfair. Steel Venom's not bad, but I think the straight spike with the lock-down moment gets old, don't you? It was awesome for the first year or so, but I think I'd get sick of a reverse spiral spike more slowly than the backwards spike on SV

It doesn't sound like its a very good idea. You should probably just scrap the idea.

If everybody thought that way we wouldn't have coasters in the first place.

Anyways, you could always resort to frictionwheels to power up your train. It might be old fashioned, but it works.

yes there would have to be very short fins (a lot of them) coming from the train.

I use elementary, and I like it. lol

And, It is called No Limits right? I have No Limit in money, so it seems to me, and most members, that it would be realistic. Why not do it? The only cost to me is the time [;)]

The no limit in money is exactly what makes it unrealistic.
