Just joined tonight, my first post. Funny thing, too. My registration ID (the six-digit number) was 180666. 180 degrees and 666, all at the same time? I wonder what my future has in store for me now.

Anyway, I've had NoLimits for quite some time, was mesmerised by all the coasters that came with the paid version. I had it on an older computer, then built a new one, didn't install it for a long time, then couldn't find my registration code, so I bought it a second time.

I think the first and closest thing to a rollercoaster building game I ever played was SimThemePark. I was more interested in building coasters than running a theme park, or having to build rinky-dink attractions to make enough game money to afford a nice, big coaster, so SimThemePark was not completely satisfying, but fun enough. I was irritated by the graphical glitches caused by having to have on the screen a bunch of goofy-looking toxic mutants running around and cutting into my frame rates.

I then discovered NoLimits. When I tried NoLimits, I had never tried any of the RollerCoaster Tycoon games, because I could see on the descriptions that I wouldn't be able to actually see the coaster perform from a rider's perspective. I guess like any newbie to NoLimits, I figidigigglidooped around with it for a while, impressed myself with getting the speed up around, oh, 300 miles an hour and set a special partition in my brain to be used in the present time, which back then I considered the future. I saw it then as software I was definitely interested in learning in-depth, but I wanted something simpler, too, that I could actually get completed results with and have fun at the same time.

So I tried some other software. One was RollerCoaster Factory 3. I was so disappointed by that program that I can't even be bothered in this moment to launch it to remind myself of how awful it was. I don't even think I could actually run the program at all on my system. I sort of remember it being plagued with graphical glitches and crashes, even before getting started on building anything. Screen shots for it look pretty nice. Just now I see there's a patch for a color distortion problem I was having with it because of my "high end" (it was high end when that software came out) nVidia card (GeForce 7950 GTOC).

I just spent about six or seven hours tonight playing the first RollerCoaster Tycoon. I had never actually played it seriously before. I went into it and tinkered around with the coaster building tools, but only being limited to a 2D perspective in four views made me experience it as a cumbersome affair I wanted no part of. Instead, I just used the existing coasters and played it as a theme park management game. It was fun for a while, but I became annoyed with the handymen getting lost in the queuing lines for the rides. I'd have to pick them up and drop them on the main footpaths or they'd wander up and down the queuing line forever. And I was annoyed with having to micromanage the prices for each ride, always having to check to make sure it wasn't losing money. That's the kind of thing that eventually ruined SimCity games for me, too.

So now, with NoLimits still being my favorite of all the above, I still look forward to designing some kind of masterpiece, but I'll save some of my more specific questions for the NoLimits forum.

Hello again!

Welcome[hello]!
Nice Intro!
All RCCAs should be RMC'd. And that event shall be henceforth known as the Rollercaust.

The original RCT is one of my favorites. One you know how to manipulate the game's pricing system and build efficiently it gets fun to complete the scenarios. (though some get repetetive) It's more of a game than a builder. RCT2 however, is just about the best one in the series for building big parks and themed rides. The third one, while giving a nice 3D perspective, lost touch with the originals and didn't really feel like RCT anymore.

NL2 should change things up nicely for those who like having their coasters in parks instead of alone in the middle of nowhere. The walk mode is also the best way possible to present a park from a guest's/rider's perspective. Hopefully the walk mode will be integrated seamlessly with the riding, so you can simply walk to a station and into a coaster train to ride.

I'd say that Simcoaster was the least favorable coaster/park computer program I've owned. Some friends liked the series' gameplay but their goofy unrealism just went too far. I never got RollerCoaster Factory but it does sound a lot worse.

I've had NL since the 1.262 days but I've gone in and out on it. I've created maybe a dozen projects but none of them are really great yet even after all this time.

The original RCT was the game I was playing when I was beginning to realise my love for coasters in general. I used to play that game a LOT and it's because of that game that I'm a coaster enthusiast, I'm sure of it.

Don't know, I guess I would have ended up one anyway, it's in my personality I guess?

But NoLimits is awesome and you can create some really amazing stuff on it when you put your mind to it.

Anyway, yeah, welcome [:)]

Welcome to the site. Thanks for introducing your coaster and simulation game perspective so fully and completely.
