After christmas I usually get a wad of cash and get one big present for my self every year. This year I am on my quest to become a DJ so I need your opinion on this Stanton setup...

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=804028

Is this a good deal?
Is this a quality setup?
Heck, Should I get it?

I am open to opinions on other better setups. I am on a budget up to like $500. So Please help.

Also as another question. How would I go about getting some of the songs on my comp to a vynl disc? If this is not possible where do I go to get some of todays top dance music on vynl?

First off, the set-up looks great for its price (other words it's a worth-it type of deal)

The sound mixer looks basic yet complex to use and high quality. The disc mixers look good as well. I just hope you have/will get a good sound system.

As for your second question, it depends on the size of the vinyl. I doubt the ones you get on the Stanton setup (or any setup) would match with a computer drive. Actually, for sure they won't because vinyls are traditionally extra big for mixing. Perhaps burn the songs to an empty CD, and somehow connect a drive with that CD in it to another drive that fits the vinyl and transfer your tracks to the vinyl that way. If there is a different method, I'm in the darkness about it.

[edit] Get the Stanton! It's completely worth it. Headsets from Stanton are usually great, and I've just viewed all the pictures from that page. Everything looks great and useful for a skillful DJ. Again, my only questionable factor is some Amps. If you want to project the sound to a decent and high decibel level, use good amps. I'm sure you probably already own some since you've been into Disc Jockeying.

Actually I have very decent computer speakers I can piggyback with or I have another set of standalone speakers I can use...

Here comes EGC's pic of his setup...[lol]

[lol] Well it's good you meet up with sound requirements.

If you mix any good tracks put 'em on a site or find a way to PM me with them. But I surely want to see what your made of (I'm sure I'll be impressed)

Looks like a good price, Musician's Friend is a great site so I don't think you're getting ripped off or anything. As for finding vinyl, ebay is a great place to start looking. I know there's tons of metal records there, so I'm sure it's full of DJ stuff too.

its' a good deal, period... not the highest quality but a really decent price. i have 1000++ records, and i've NEVER bought from ebay, but most were purchased in the early 90's. i use a technics turntable with a grado cartridge that tracks at about 1.5 grams , but not a 1200, it's the home model. stantons are a good idea for that sort of setup, as you don't want to be doing that sort of thing with something really nice. i dj sometimes and if i had the bread to buy that setup id do it, and i'm not even "that" sort of d.j. as far as speakers go you'll want to invest in some decent monitors, there really is not such a thing as good computer speakers.

Thanks J but where could I buy a good library of new dance music?

EDIT: I still have been searching for a good dealer of this generations of dance music like Ferry Corsten and Tiesto... If anyone has ideas please tell!

nah, bose speakers are o.k. for a living room stereo, or for simply listening to music, but the sound they create is more of an illusion than anything else (unless you get older ones from before the early 80's.. good luck) .. granted, after you're done creating the music one may listen to it on that sort of setup, but they aren't recommended for making music. .. i have a good vintage pair of 303's that i use with my stereo.
as far as that sort music goes i really don't know where you can find it, but i can think of three places here in san diego that sell that sort of stuff.

Well on my computer I have a set of Logitech X130's I think. Its not the whole setup but it has a nice clean base and is very clear for my use. If I really wanted I have a set of Philips for the turntables I will be purchasing. But I know I would need to get a better setup. Also if ECG if you still are around please tell me about your setup.
