I went to install SM and this message came up.

This is not a HDD problem or a virus. I just installed the Windows 7 RC, and I tried on Vista also. Different HDD's same message.

It's an OS error. The game was not made to work with Windows 7. Windows 7 wasn't around when SM was created and neither was Vista. Here are the specs of SM direct from Wounded-Heart.com:

System Requirements

- PIII/500 or above
- Video: Hardware T&L
- Sound Card
- Win 98/Me/2000/XP
- 80 megs HDD space
- RAM: 128 megs
- Mouse Required

Last I heard, and I might have heard wrong, there might be an update coming out soon. As I said, I might have heard wrong [:)]

Most games from many year ago still work with Vista.

And anything that works with Vista works with 7. They are basically the same OS except 7 is optimized.

Works with vista 32 bit, not 64 bit.

That's my problem then!

Wow, I think this is the first program I've had not work with 64-bit and I have been using 64-bit for 2 and 1/2 years!

EDIT: Nope not the problem. I went all the way back to my 32-bit XP install on this PC on yet a different HDD same issue. I was looking at TPR and someone there who just redownloaded it is having the same issue I am.

Wait, can't you run a program as Windows XP Service Pack 2? I can with RCT3, and I have Vista...
Oh, were you expecting something here?
