So a temporary chaindog which is attached to first and a permanent chaindog lower than this to "catch" the train as it falls. Even with the magnetic braking this sounds like a maintenance nightmare on the chain and motor? We shall see I guess - I have my reservations about this from a reliability standpoint.

Here is a quick mock-up of what I mean.

In image 1, the shorter chain-dog pushes the train up the lift. In image 2, when the chain trough indents inwards, the shorter chain-dog is too short to keep contact with the train and so train freefalls backwards. In image 3, after train is slowed by magnetic fins, a taller chain-dog further down the chain in position engages the train and pushes the train back up. In image 4, as the chain-dog is taller, it remains contact even when in the indented section, continuing to push the train up and over.

Obviously this is all speculation and is all based on how Gerstlauer make lift hills normally with the presence of chain-dogs located on the chain themselves to 'push' trains up. This may be a completely new design for Karnan but this is simply my thoughts. :P

I'll buy that conceptual model if someone can actually confirm it.

Hell, Confirmed or not that's actually a really good system for a manufacturer to use.

Thanks CC for putting this awesome video. Thanks Coaster Crew for adding a cool background music! That backward drop along the vertical lift, absolutely makes the ride time longer!

Made an excellent choice, Gerstlauer! :D

Would be cool if they crammed an elevator lift ride into somewhere like Knotts.

in the video, the train waits a bit before free-falling, so i don't entirely see how the above system would work. very clever and interesting, though, as I'm very interested in the technical side of roller coasters.

The picture is almost right... instead of 2 chain-dogs, there is only one. It will push the train up. Once it's at the top, some breaks will activate and hold the train. Now the chain will go backwards (this is the wait part in the video). Once the chain dog is at the bottom of the lift, the brakes will open and the train will fall into the magnetic brakes and gently onto the chain-dog.

That looks much better than it did initially. Glad they're finishing everything up.

I was terrified that they were going to leave it a concrete mess.

When that detail work is finished, I would love that picture as an HD wallpaper. Such a bizarre scene lol.

"World's first Gerstlauer hyper coaster." Sounds to me like an overly narrow superlative, like "world's first Chance rides Hyper GTX."

The detail on the tower looks awesome, yet the tower still looks so bizarre just as a stand-alone. xD
