Kennywood 2015 Opening Day (Update on Riot Situation)

While many other parks are gearing up to open their huge and record blowing new rides - Kennywood opens their 118th season today by going a third year with several minor (but very welcomed!) additions to the park! - The new 2015 attraction has been revealed to be a brand new 4D Theater Attraction, right next to Bayern Kurve where the old breakout game used to be!

A new, yet-to-be named attraction is under construction and will be housed at the old Arcade area. It's described by Kennywood spokesman Nick Paradise as a 4-D theater -- a little bit of a ride and a little bit of a show, different from anything else at the park -- and it's expected to open sometime in the summer.

"It's going to have more comfortable seating. People can enjoy and immerse all five senses in the attraction," Paradise said. "We had to install a water line into the building -- so, in some way, shape or form, people can expect to get a little bit wet during the show."

"People will wear 3-D glasses, and it's going to have things that are going to engage people -- whether it's moving seats, different smells, little bumps and scares -- and we installed a water line into that building, so there will be a little bit of precipitation there. People might get wet. Can't say just how much yet."

All these little changes are nice, but part of me is really excited for whatever big addition is coming next, whenever (or whatever) it may be. I mean, 3 years with no major addition? Could be setting something really cool up

Well, scratch off any hopes of a happy opening day. I honestly don't even have words for this right now...

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ??? Several police units have been called to a reported fight and possible riot at Kennywood Park.
Several witnesses report seeing people, possibly up to 100-people fighting, and then a large group running as police responded.
Witnesses report as many as 50-officers responded to the park.
Police from as many as 10 different departments including West Mifflin, Duquesne, and Allegheny County were all called to the scene.
A Kennywood spokesperson say around dusk a large group of teenagers began pushing, shoving, and causing disruptions throughout the park.
At 8:45 p.m. Kennywood decided to close the park, meaning thousands of people had to be evacuated.
Kennywood deny that there was a riot, and say no one was injured.
A Kennywood spokesman also says no shots were fired at the park.
Saturday was the first day open for the park.
