KENNYWOOD-2005/2006 - Rumor - (1/12/04) People have speculated for years about when Kennywood would finally build a new coaster. Not counting the Phantom?????????s Revenge, which was a rebuild of the old Steel Phantom the last new coaster that was added to the park was the small indoor Exterminator coaster in 1999. In the past we've heard rumors about possible wood coasters, but the thing the park is really lacking currently is a good steel looping coaster. Now the latest rumor claims that the park may be indeed looking into the idea of a steel coaster that, like the Phantom, could take advantage of the park?????????s natural terrain.

I've never been to Kennywood (it's only about 5hrs away) but if they do indeed build a coaster there, i'll try to go sometime. It looks like it could be a great coaster using the terrain.

I actually think that a steel looper would decrease the quality of the park. I love Kennywood for its traditionalness, and a steel looper would just make it feel like more of a SF park.

I'm not saying that a steel looper is bad or anything, but since it wouldn't make the park feel as traditonal as it is now, I wouldn't like to see one built there.

IF, Steel Phantom once was a looping coaster. [;)]

A small looping coaster would be a perfect addtion to KW. It would be very easy to 'hide' a small looping coaster from the midways due to the great terrain KW has.

yeah, but it was probably better than what they would get now, and since Arrow doesn't build coasters anymore I don't see how this coaster is going to be that good.

I was under the impression that they were going to build more land over where their parking lot was and move some of the flat rides over their and build possibly a coaster there too. But who knows.

Arrow isn't completly defunct, they are owned by S&S. But KennyWood isn't known for their cutting edge coaster designs.

Well, if they keep their non cutting edge coaster designs, the looper they would get would be way better than a B&M or anything really tame [:)]

Actually, the coaster designs there are better than the coaster designs at CP or the big parks. The designs are intense....do the coasters at SF or CF parks eject you 2 feet out of your seat? I didn't think so. Jack Rabbit does [:)]

I think that Kennywood would benefit nicely from a CCI-style wood coaster. So far, all of the coasters that have used the terrain as a backbone, (I.E. "Boulder Dash", Thunderbolt and Jack Rabbit, and the Thunderhead) have been absolutely heralded by ACE. A good 21st century-style woodie would really make the park complete. ACE would have a fit if Kennywood built a steel coaster, because stell just isn't as "charming" as a woodie. Charm is Kennywood's best classic aspect.

A CCI terrain woodie wood be excellent for the park. Unfortunetly, since CCI isn't around anymore, that can't happen [:(]

If they had a coaster built by GCI, I don't think it would be that great at all, since they aren't very intense and are pretty forceless. If they are gonna get a 21st century woodie, CoasterWorks would be the best manufacturer for it IMO.

Well, I've lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania all my life....Kennywood being my home park and 20 minutes away from my home...I love Kennywood and all of it's classic woodies, but I'd have to say the park lacks a great smooth Steel-Looping coaster, as the great Steel Phantom was a head-banger (but an awesome coaster!) Indeed I hope they build a Steel Looper, We already have 3 great woodies......If for somw reason they decide to build a woodie, then oh well, whatever's clever....I'd love the park all the same!..........Besides if Kennywood gets a Looper, they can then compete with the bigger parks, and take back the title as the best park created!

Kennywood doesn't need a steel looper to be better than all the big parks, it already is. Just look at Knoebels, it has 2 woodies that aren't too big (But are both so awesome and better than the coasters at big parks), but everything is so much cheaper, the staff are cooler, the rides are more intense and exciting, and the feel to the park is great. I don't know why everyone thinks that a great park has to have really huge coasters with lots of inversions. I think that most people fail to see what really does make a great park.

Yes, you have a point...but the fact of the matter is, a lot of us "pittsburghies" would rather see a good steel looper, as now-a-days more and more floorless and hyper coasters, and woodies are being built <img src=images/icon_speech_no.gif border=0 width=17 height=15 alt=Insert Speech Icon: No>, overshadowing the classic steel loopers........and for the most part woodies are great and very traditional, but people make them out to be much more than they really are....yes they are cheaper than MOST steel coasters, and are LESS complicating to build then a steel coaster, I think that Steel Coasters are the best <img src=images/icon_speech_duh.gif border=0 width=23 height=15 alt=Insert Speech Icon: Duh!>, and it would smother Kennywood by adding another woodie [:(!]....I hear a lot of people in the park talking about how lame the park is getting because it doesn't have a good looper...and some people are tiresome of the 3 woodies and the hyper coaster that we have. Now as far as Kennywood is concerned, they are considering contacting B&M, Vekoma and 2 other companines to see who's company will build our next coaster, for I had sent them a letter ages ago about this matter, and only recived an answer 2 weeks before christmas.

Of Course this is just my opinion.
