for one...Freddie couldnt be more wrong about kings island(I still dont know why he thinks IB is better.

Because Indiana Beach is amazing. It's unique, has an awesome ride lineup, everything runs balls to the wall, and it has an amazing atmosphere. Kings Island is a very average corperate park with a very weak ride lineup. Some areas of the park are nice but it did NOT do that much for me.

In a nutshell, I like IB more because it's insanely fun. Kings Island was pretty mediocre.

Edit: Also, didn't you once mention that you didn't actually go to IB, just went to the lake? That right there throws out any validity to your opinion.

I do think CP is lame - the difference is I actually went to it. Indiana Beach is a place you have to experience to understand. You won't understand the hype unless you actually go (with an open mind of course).

Back to the original poster's question: Do I think you should try new places? Definitely. Do I think said other places should be Kings Island? No. There are far more unique parks out there which your time can be better spent at.

I've been to NEITHER King's Island or Indiana Beach so take my word for it.

Kidding; but in all serious, IB has 3 CCIs which in my eyes look like they could be near the best of their kind. Especially Cornball (with all the close calls to the water) and Superstition Mt (clearly is probably the most bizzare wooden roller coaster, let alone the fact its traveling in and out of tunnels).

Mike, if you want my opinion I'd go to CP. Don't go to KI

if only to say you've been to another park.

...don't worry about credits and being able to say you've been on roller coasters. Go on Maverick, Raptor, Magnum, Gemini, Blue Streak because you know they're fun and will give you a great ride each time [:)]

Oh, and it's closer. Have fun with gas $$$.

DEFINITELY make the trip out to KI! I travel 3.5 hours to it every year, and have a blast each time!

It's got 13 coasters, including at least 4 solid ones, and many GREAT flats!

I am in Cincinnati for a week and my dad and I are going to go to King's Island. I'm not going to complain. I haven't been to an amusement park in 2 years. I was surprised to see that Cedar Fair bought Kings Island. When did this happen? I mean I haven't been to King's Island since they were building Tomb Raider the ride. I mean I am glad that Cedar Fair bought them out though I love their parks like Worlds of fun and Valleyfair! I hear about there plans for a B&M hypercoaster so if anyone wants me to get pictures of the build site I will.

It's definitely worth the trip to King's Island! The Beast is a fantastic wooden coaster and son of beast is a close match. Worth it just for those two.

I don't see how not liking a park makes me closed minded. I went to the park, I didn't get all the hype. Sorry.

Your opinions are biased, and although you were only stating your opinion, the question of the topic was simply about going to Kings Island. Maybe you like Indiana Beach, but that gives you no reason to rag on Cedar Point. Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Indiana Beach are all awesome parks, each with different experiences, and environments.

Note how I wasn't the one to bring up CP, it was corn4ahead.
Still...i dont see all the hype...and arent you the one that thinks CP is lame.

Answering that was the only reason I mentioned my opinion of it.

I do love Indiana Beach but the reason I said it was because the original poster said he was 20 min from CP and 3.5 hours from Kings Island... Seeing as he didn't mention Kennywood, I'd assume he's west of CP. That would mean he is in the In Beach area kind of (atleast around the 3.5 hours it would take to get to KI)....Which is why I'm pushing it.

He asked for our opinions of Kings Island - I gave mine. That makes me biased? My above post says:
Back to the original poster's question: Do I think you should try new places? Definitely. Do I think said other places should be Kings Island? No. There are far more unique parks out there which your time can be better spent at.

Isn't that what he asked? I don't see how one can be unbiased when posting an opinion of something like that....Unless maybe you haven't been to the park. So, OP, I guess you should only listen to those who haven't been before (?).

Thats a load of crap.

Kings Island has 13 roller coasters, introducing its 14th next year.
Not to mention the longest wooden roller coaster in the world. With the new 2009 addition on its way why would you advise someone not to take a trip to Kings Island. The Park has loads of fun things to do and thrills that you won't find anywhere else.

That isn't true. I do like a lot of parks, but NOT for their coaster count. I love Lake Compounce, Busch Gardens Europe, Rye Playland, Canobie Lake, Kennywood, Holiday World, and many others just as much as I love Indiana Beach.

I guess I'll break down why I don't like Kings Island.

They have one of the worst wood coaster lineups of any park I have been to. The Beast is insanely overrated in my opinion just because it is the longest. However, it is only longest because of the huge stretches of flat track. The ride has nothing for airtime, almost no laterals, and is trimmed to death. I will give it that it's unique, but not in a good way IMO. The helix that everyone raves about...I just didn't understand. It was fun and everything but just no where near as good as most people make it out to be. Maybe riding Legend the week prior spoiled me. Son of Beast is even worse. The only thing that keeps it interesting is the roughness. Way too long and spread out, doesn't do anything, and like Beast, no airtime or laterals. Racer forwards is what I consider to be the worst wood coaster I have ever ridden. I don't know if I caught it on a bad day or what but it jack hammered in every valley and absolutely killed my back. And, keeping with the theme, no airtime or laterals. Beastie/Fairly Odd Ghoster Coaster/whatever they call it now was rough too. I've been on quite a few "Jr" wood coasters including the one at PKD (glass smooth) but none were that bad. Potholes in every valley, and a trim, WTF. Why does a kid coaster need a trim brake.... Racer backwards was pretty enjoyable. Some mild airtime over the hills and pretty smooth, however there was fresh wood all over it, so I'd be willing to bet it was just as bad if not worse than the forwards side before. The wood coaster lineup is a HUGE part of how I think of parks (the exception being BGE). This park had very mediocre ones, most of which sit at the bottom of my rankings. On top of the mediocrity, they do NOT take care of them, making the expierience pretty bad. I don't usually complain about wood coasters but KIs were really bad IMO.

The steel collection was unique, but pretty much all of them were lacking in some way or another. The three that I think standout were Face/Off, Topgun, and Vortex, in that order, and even they weren't really amazing. Firehawk was interesting, and I like the 'awkward' parts, but overall it's just not a great ride to me. Flight Of Fear has the potential to be great, but the MCBR trim just kills it. I had ridden the one at KD the year before and that one is the same way....Except it was smooth. While KIs wasn't rough by any means, it rattled a LOT. Italian Job, again, I had ridden the previous year. Good family ride, but overall it's not thrilling. So much more could have been done with it.

I didn't do many flatrides at the park - just Dropzone, Delirium, and the Skycoaster. Delirium ran a pretty weak cycle compared to MaxAir (which I didn't care for either - I like the forced down swing of the smaller KMG frisbees than the freefall). Dropzone was pretty amazing, and the skycoaster was a skycoaster.

As I said in my first post, I do like the atmosphere of most of the park. However, atmosphere doesn't influence my views on Kings Island as much as it normally would because the park is considered a 'major' park. When a park gets a status like that, and has so many coasters, I think more than the Vekoma Boomerang and Arrow megalooper should be the standout rides. This just isn't the case with Kings Island, at least in my opinion.

I will say that depending on what the trimbrakes are like on the new hyper, my views of the park being worth going to could change. If they get something that runs like Apollo, then good for them, they got the standout ride and I'd be more inclined to say check out the park. If they get a Raging Bull.....meh, I stand by what I have posted.

Knowing which coasters they have, I think KI and CP both look really lame...the only thing that looks cool at KI is TopGun/Flight Deck.

Go to waldameer instead. RF2 > anything at CP or KI.

I kind of see your point Freddie. I live like an hour away from Kings Island, so I am more prone to going there.

One thing I do want to point out is that it is not Kings Island's fault that their woodies are trimmed. I learned at Q&A at CoasterMania that the trim brakes are added on to a woodie in order to keep it's maintenance up. As a woodie ages, it actually speeds up and is more liable to "break down." The trims are added so that the ride remains safe and keeps the ride in one piece. If you look around, you might notice that a lot of the older woodies either have heavy trims or have had some type of remodeling.

I totally respect your opinion, because you gave it and that is all that was asked. I don't see the huge problem with you not caring so much about Kings Island (and its my home park, so you think I would be one to complain, but opinions are opinions).
