One reason I strongly respect the NL team's work is that they make it easy to transfer things between computers, instead of cluttering it up with horrible restrictions. (i.e. Online activations, limitations to number of computers, etc.) In fact, I keep my entire NL folder synced between machines via Dropbox, and the way the NL directory is set up make it super-easy and convenient for downloaded tracks, project updates, etc. to propagate to my other computers. The license agreement clearly permits this, and no one else even uses the computers.
On Windows, you can enter the registration key through Help > Enter Key-Code... Look to see if there's something similar to that in the Mac version of the editor.
I'm pretty sure that NL for Mac uses the same file formats as the Windows version, so you should be able to copy files (tracks, textures, objects, environments, etc.) between them just fine. The easiest way is to use a flash drive formatted in a way that both OS's can read. Obviously, the rest of NL (executables, binary files, etc.) will only be compatible with one OS.
Try WINE, I heard that NL runs on it fairly well, and it should be faster than using a VM/Bootcamp. However, VM's obviously mimic the runtime environment much better, so if WINE causes problems with NL, that's the best option.
Yeah, they both use the same file types, just not the same application installer file. So I can only get the demo download off the NL site which doesn't have the enter key-code option.
I did try Wine several times with no success. I watched videos on how to set up Wine, tried whatever was explained but still came up with problems. I feel like I got close, but never got it completely working. It was pretty frustrating...
