Ive realized instead of posting a million photos in the Photography thread, Id create one dedicated to this event.

I had not been to a motorsporting event since I was 6. 22 years ago. I decided it was long enough and the perfect chance was to take my father for Fathers day to see IndyCar and the American LeMans series.

I will confess, I wasnt terribly interested in the IndyCar. Ever since the Indianapolis Speedway owner took the Indy 500 away from CART racing to create his own, Oval only league the sport has divebombed to the depths of hell. Only recently with the addition of road courses and becoming more lenient with their rules has the sport started to grow again.

However, the ALMS which is based off the LeMans circuit (24hr of LeMans, 24hr of Daytona, etc) is a TREMENDOUSLY entertaining spectacle. 3-5 different classes of cars ALL on the track at the same time. You race against only people in your class for rank but ALL classes race the same track at the same time. It means that several classes are sometimes 10-15 seconds quicker a lap so there is constant action and in most cases, a lot of mayhem.

The weekend was an absolute blast. Witnesses several crashes, lots of rubbin and paint trading and even an absolute downpour that reduced the best drivers in the world to granny pace around the track. Epic weekend, one my dad and I can share forever.

Now, the pics. (some of these are in the photography thread but Ill reupload here)

As a fan of auto racing, thank you. I will have to say though that those open wheel cars don't look like Indy cars. Probably Formula 3000 or GP2 cars. I dunno.

Those are F2000. I haven't edited my IndyCar photos yet. The Dallara bores me really...I want the CART cars from the late 90's.

Yea the Dallaras are kinda boring, but their changing the chassis and engines next season. Panoz is building the chassis while Chevrolet is providing the engines. And I believe the green open wheel is a Star Mazda car. And the Compuware corvettes? Won the GT2 class in the 24 hours of Le Mans :D

Nope, its not a Star Mazda, all USF2000 cars. Star Mazda was not there that weekend. I know my race cars ;)

That and I race the Star Mazda in iRacing, its not even really close. These have much smaller side pods among other things.

The Compuware Vettes have a wonderful sound! Not like the Ferarri's or the P1 Aston Martin (which had the most glorious noise ever) but it was definitely a set of great notes.

Yes! Great way to put it. The Jaguar and BMW's are freakin mean sounding too. Almost over the top loud/mean. Of course the Jag looked like it handled like a box of horrible rocks but it sounded good doing it.

The 458 is a desparately sexual looking beast.

Awesome photos!... except for the one of that Jaguar in the middle, what a shitty looking car. Look at it's grill! Looks like a lazy Australian car or something.

The body shape is, indeed, simply a redesign of the DB9 body shape. That much is obvious, the same designer worked on both.

HOWEVER, and it's a big however. You can make a cake as nice a shape as you want, but if you ice it with poop, it's still a poop cake.

That car looked like it drove like crap too. Unless the drivers were just that bad.
