My idea for keeping ratings mandatory.

Okay, here's my idea. A normal person is allowed to download 4 tracks per a month. If you rate a track, you get 1+ download. Doing this, would increase rating's very well. Also, another idea along the lines would be to award them with more Downloads depending on how long the ratings are.
-Example-
200 characters - +1
500 characters - +2
800 characters - +3

This would be fair to everyone, you would get 3 tracks, where you can either save throughout the month, or spend em all at once. But during that process, they can rate other people's tracks and get more downloads for more tracks. Lastly, the download count would reset every month. Depending on what the site owners want, they can have it set so points gained by rating tracks are kept til they are spent. So people can save up rating points for a while to use in the future. Sure, there may be some small problems regarding random patterns of rating's, but for sure it would raise the rating count in general.

What if someone spams a rating/false rating/etc?
It would be dealt in a '# day DL suspension'.

What if people don't download the more simplistic tracks?
That's the uploaders problem, it's their priority to make something that looks entertaining and attention gaining.

Could you save up Rating points?
Although Daily month points reset after the month ends, you can only save up your rating points.

Would also drive people away. Forcing people to rate in a more forceful way is probably the biggest reason why we don't see CoasterSims today.

But this isn't entirely forceful, we are still allowing them to download, but rating would increase their download points, maybe if we were to boost the rating points. Like 2 for 200 characters, 4 for 500, etc.

I don't upload tracks so their reviewed, but so people can enjoy what I made. Rating are a bonus.

Yes, when I upload as rarely as I do it, unless its a contest the numbers don't really matter all that much to me, the feedback though can be important. I dont rate much because I just don't feel comfortable with it. I agree completely that rating is important for growth, but the problem with it is that its always the more elite members that get the most ratings, the ones who dont really need it as much. Its the lower tier coasters created by the newer members that do need the feedback, but dont get any

that's one of the main reasons I don't use NLE much cause if forces you to rate a % of your downloads. I think this is the reason NLE has SO many troll rates and very few are legit.

I wish most new users didn't take a lower score so personally. It took me myself a while to learn that low scores are only things to improve upon and something to learn from.

Yeah the key here si *better* rating. You need to be pointing out the positives as well as the negatives when you rate something, which took me a long time to realise!
