Since its only 7 ft tall a pnumatic might work becuase it can extend the cylnder much quicker than hydrualics could ever do, plus you wouldn't need as much power to send it off.

A sorta random question, but you're going to paint it, right?

I think the pneumatics would probably be the best to go with. It's probably cheaper than hydralics, and I think you could tweek the launch speed to just where you want it.

it is 17 feet long because i am making the station 2 feet long and then there is the switch track 1, launch pad, tower supports (wich should take about 1 foot),switch track 2, the turn at the end, and the launch itself is going to be 10 feet long

Okay I have never built a model rollercoaster before, but I have communicated with many modelers who build working rollercoaster models. What they told me was to build everything out of Plastruct, a plastic that is used in many model boats, cars, airplanes. When heated by a blow dryer they become softer and bendable, and when they cool down they become rock hard. For track ties, you might have a problem. Normally, you would buy either sheets of Plastruct and cut them out or make molds in which you could make them yourself, but Intamin makes VERY complicated track ties, and while they are beautiful, it will take many hours of work. I build and fly model airplanes and suggest that before you build a scale KK model, start with something smaller and less complicated like an Arrow or B&M track style coaster. Oh also for brakes, you could put up fins that are made out of Plastruct that just barely pinch a balsa stock piece of wood under the train. Hope this helps, PM me if you have anymore questions.
